I had been looking for a replacement pair of walking boots and after trying lots of other shops F W Tyson had the best quality boots in Ambleside coupled with the best service and advice. Fantastic family ran shoe shop and I couldn't recommend highly enough. I bought a pair of leather Meindl walking boots and they're the best value for money compared with everything else I'd looked at.
Came in today for some boots. I knew what I was looking for in advance, but the owners were super helpful and really nice to deal with. Seemed to have a good range of high quality footwear and I can’t wait to test out my new LOWA Mountain boots in the field!

I ordered sandals online but found the size I had ordered were too small. I contacted the shop, and received swift and excellent customer service. My replacement - one size bigger - sandals arrived today, just two days after I returned the original pair. We will certainly shop here again. Thanks Donna & team.
Bought a pair of Lowa boots here in 2008. Returned in 2021 and bought some more, after the lady measured me and advised on the correct size. Very comfortable Lowa Renegade GTX boots, but after 11 months the side rubber came away slightly from the leather upper, causing a leak. No quibble exchange for a new pair, as just within 12 month guarantee period.
Great customer service experience. Tempted to purchase some new walking shoes but we're recommended repair instead; with no financial gain. Efficient, professional service, with speedy delivery. Highly recommended if you'd like to be looked after
This was the 1st time of ordering from FW Tyson & what a great experience it was. Ordered a pair of Grisport walking shoes which were posted the following day & received the next. Packaged in brown paper instead of the usual plastic postage bag & also came with a thankyou letter. Shame there aren't more companies offering this level of service any more!! Will definitely use FW Tyson again in the future & would not hesitate to recommend them.
I ordered the Lowa Renegade Mid walking boots from this shop. The boot is great and fits well. I was particularly impressed with the level of service. The boots arrived a few days after ordering and included personal letter inside from the shop thanking me for my custom. It is great to see good values of customer service is still being upheld by shop keepers. Thank you FW Tyson!
What a great find! Excellent customer service. Contacted the company as they came up on a Google search for a particular brand of shoe I was searching for. Phoned to check they had it in stock, made a credit card payment over the phone. Three days later, they were delivered. I would use them again without hesitation and next time I am in Ambleside I will visit them.
