This review is for the pub and not the hotel. I went for Sunday lunch on 15 September with 20 others and I I can honestly say I had one of the best pub lunches ever. I had sea bass with Elton Mess to follow. Both absolutely delicious and lots of lovely vegetables too. The young ladies who looked after us mainly elderly ……US - NOT the young ladies!!!! were so kind, pleasant and helpful. The food and wine were a bit on the expensive side but well worth it. I mean to take my family for a pub lunch soon and The Duke will be top of the list! One small query is the vegan option but we’ll check the menu before we book. Many thanks
Visited on 11/08/24. We’ve eaten in the evening here a few times and the food was very nice. So thought we’d give breakfast a go. However the quality of the evening food doesn’t emulate that of the breakfast. We waited 30 mins to start with and when it arrived well, it was awful. We did try and eat it but the standard was terrible. At £15 for a breakfast, not happy. How the chef could put that on a plate and be happy with it is beyond belief. It was a basic breakfast you get at a very low end cafe. The quality was appalling, I won’t go into detail, but the only edible thing was the toast, even the butter was frozen. The manager offered to replace it but we were so annoyed with the wait we just said no and left. I think I was more annoyed that they tried to palm this off on us. We went into Romsey to the Cork and Bean and had a fabulous meal. I won’t be eating here again.
We had a meal here tonight - arrived greeted by very bored looking staff who seated us then left us we were not asked if we would like a drink When the food came it was nice but nobody came back to ask if -all was okay or if we needed more drinks In summary beautiful place , chef obviously working hard, but kids left to run front of house. Would you leave the reputation of your business to this !!!
Popped in to see how the Duke pub has improved and were not disappointed! A new extention has seen a new restaurant area, and generally the whole pub is much more airey & light. We will definitely be back to sample the food, alas we didn't have the time on this visit.Service: 5/5
Ate here for Sunday lunch. Service was fine and they were able to fit us in even though fully booked. I had roast pork, which was OK but not excellent. The apple sauce was under the pork and then bland gravy poured all over. The potatoes were obviously reheated.Service: 5/5
Lovely location and friendly staff but overpriced and disappointing food. I ordered the trout which I was assured was locally caught but when it came out they had just served me salmon so not local at all. The olive oil had been watered down with something I would presume vegetable oil and half of what we ordered never arrived or was incorrect. Pub looks nice but wouldn’t order food ever again.
Only visited for a family lunch but will definitely go again. Extensive menu, including good vegan and vegetarian options. Everyone in our party said their food was great and service was excellent. We paid around £30 a head including drinks for a main course and dessert. The loos are really nice too, very clean. Dog friendly, wheelchair accessible, quite a large carpark on-site and a lovely rural location. We visited on a Thusday lunchtime and it was busy. I'd recommend booking in advance. Highly recommended.
The food was OK. Very thin, fatty sliced beef and a small plate of vegetables. For £21 plus extra £ for an extra Yorkshire, we'd expected more. Food arrived coldService: 3/5
Service was very good. When we arrived they were sorting out a wedding do. The staff were so proffesional and you would have never guessed they were so busy. Food was lovely. We will be back.Service: 5/5
We met out Son, Daughter in law, Grandson and Granddaughter here for breakfast Saturday morning. We arrived early having traveled a long way. Thought we got inside... The Waitress couldn't find the booking..but found it later Son had booked earlier Sat am.... on internet I think. We were offered coffee but decided to wait. We went here in March and sure the menu was bigger with more on tge menu. The rest if our party arrived...it was long time before getting a highchair for our 15month Granddaughter. Service wasn't good...very slow. Waitress didn't seem interested in her job. There were also a number if flies flying about.. I had scrambled egg on Toast which was very tastyand had a sausage extra...it was a very expensive sausage. Husband had Poached eggs on toast which were very vingergy. Food was nicely presented. Things we asked for weren't remembered. If being REALLY PICKY....Coffee pots were different sizes but same price and were for 2 people. No extra coffee offered. Not asked if everything was ok with the meal. Was an expensive disappointment. Shame really... good place to meet up and lovely setting...
