Sensively renovated, Crossbasket is a stunning 17th century castle transformed into one of Scotland's most exclusive luxury hotels. Managed by ICMI
Crossbasket Castle is an exceptional and unique ‘A’ listed historic building that has been a home to a number of distinguished families throughout its 600-year history. It is situated in extensive private grounds between East Kilbride and High Blantyre near Glasgow with excellent access and motorway links from Glasgow, Edinburgh and the south. The location is convenient for anywhere in the Central belt and has straightforward access to the main airports.
The Castle is approached through a private gated entrance and its own 500 yard driveway, passing through exclusive manicured garden grounds with many specimen trees from around the world, a large stretch of woodland, extensive nature walks and a beautiful stretch of river featuring majestic waterfalls. The extent of the grounds creates privacy and tranquility.
There is unlimited parking for cars and coaches, a breathtaking front entrance opposite a landscaped Celtic cross water feature, flanked by Italian cypress trees to complete the journey to the Castle.
The oldest part of the Castle is the 15th Century Tower, built on a rise high above the river, originally to improve its defensive position. Now known as the Honeymoon Tower, it has been recreated as a fabulous and romantic 4-storey suite served by a sweeping spiral stone staircase. Perfect for the Bride and Groom.
The Tower has been extended in Victorian times to form the present day Castle. There are glorious period features inside and out and great care has been taken to ensure its restoration respects all of the historic elements of this special place.
Each of the eight, ensuite bedrooms are totally unique in their internal design and provide an insight into the Castles history with each being named after a distinguished owner.
The Castle is steeped in a rich Scottish history most notably occupied as a family home by Charles Mackintosh, the inventor of the famous “mac” raincoat. The mac was invented and developed right here on the castle grounds in a substantial mill, the ruins of which can still be found across the river at the rear of the Castle.
Throughout the Castle, you will find a wonderful collection of art and original antique furniture.
Quite simply, Crossbasket Castle promises the perfect Scottish wedding venue.
