Clifton Country Park

Story

Clifton Country Park is a local nature reserve in the Irwell Valley at Clifton, Greater Manchester, North West England. Situated next to a double bend in the River Irwell, it is north east of the Manchester to Preston railway line and the A666, Manchester Road, Clifton where it is accessible via Clifton House Road opposite Clifton Cricket Club. Junction 16 of the M60 motorway is only about ¼ mile away to the south east. The park comprises 119 acres (48 hectares) of wooded area, fields and lakes. Industrial heritage is also a feature of the park, the remains of Wet Earth Colliery can be found in the woods, along with Fletcher's Canal. The park also features two sculptures from the Irwell Sculpture Trail.ImportanceClifton House Farm, Clifton Marina and Wet Earth Colliery together form the strategically important site of Clifton Country Park, providing a focal point within the Croal/Irwell Valley and on Salford's Recreation Routes network. An action plan was drawn up to help protect the site and establish several improvements to the area. The action plan also identifies two Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) for their biological diversity. The marina has also been cited as a place to plant trees and develop a green area along the western edge of the Greater Manchester conurbation.

Lovely park. Woodland trail with fairyland carvings, beautiful lake, very dog friendly. Playground suitable for all ages. Lovely dog friendly cafe, lots of choice including many vegan options.
Great place. Our two kids loved it. Nice big play area and several different walking routes. Toilets and small cafe in the car park.
Gorgeous place. Lots of great walks and if you get here early enough you'll get a stunning sunrise across the lake. Dropped one star as they seem to have a litter problem but If this changes. 5 stars
Beautiful place with things for little ones of various ages to explore. Lovely lake with a viewing platform for the ducks which is great for toddlers! Gruffalo trail too. There is a park bit not much on it for a toddler however still fun. Free parking, cafe on site and picnic benches! Still haven't got all the way around with my toddler but love the place for some outdoor exploration
Beautiful nature walk & kids sculpture trail, stunning lake views, picnic spots, kids park, on site cafe at reasonable prices, on-site parking that does get full quickly on busy days. Just a really nice place to visit with or without children
Love this place! Great for a nature walk around the lake, good paths plus woods to explore and a great kids playground. I haven't made it all the the way around yet with my 2.5 year old as its so big. Handy little shop in the car park too for a well deserved coffee or ice cream.
A regular favourite of ours, a perfect oasis of countryside in the middle of an urban jungle. Wheelchair/pushchair friendly. Great for kids and dogs of all kinds, the fields, woods and lake offer a variety of activities for pups of any age to tire themselves out, but with only 30 minutes you can be round the lake fully and be on with your day again. The cafe is well stocked and reasonably priced, and the play area caters for children of all ages
I had a fantastic day out at this beautiful place, lots to explore and they have a playground for young children and a lovely cafe that includes toilets.
We were very impressed with this park. Ample parking, disabled parking too. Dog, child and pram/wheelchair friendly. Great for families. You could try the fairytale trail if with children, which is a lap around the marina although no boats lol with animal sculptured for children to discover. There are ducks, swans and Canadian geese on the lake. There is a park located a short distance from the parking lot. Numerous benches and bins located around the park. Several paths from the main gravel/sand path, that could keep you busy as long as you want to walk for. Some of the paths can be waterlogged, muddy and would require adequate footwear. Horses can be spotted in some of the fields. There is a path alongside the river Irwell too. There is a Cafe on-site with access to toilets and baby changing. Seating inside and outside. Coffee is really good here with dairy free milk. A very well looked after park, Salford Council have rangers on-site. Lost 1 star due to some of the paths being incomplete, unsteady, overgrown or entirely waterlogged. Slippery to walk through when carrying a baby in a harness.
Lovely little place, I enjoy going on my own for a morning walk to clear my head but also it’s a great day out for the kids to be in nature and there is a lovely little park there too. It has access on to the Irwell so sometimes I walk from salford up, it definitely gets the steps in!! There’s a trail for horses too. It’s just so serene in the sun and such a good place to go and clear your head.
