Old Trafford

Story

Old Trafford is an area of Stretford, in the Metropolitan Borough of Trafford, Greater Manchester, England, 2mi southwest of Manchester city centre. The crossroads sites of two old toll gates roughly delineate the borders of the area: Brooks's Bar to the east and Trafford Bar to the west.Old Trafford is the site of two major sporting venues: Old Trafford football stadium, home of Manchester United F.C., and Old Trafford Cricket Ground, home of Lancashire County Cricket Club. These are at either end of Warwick Road, two parts of which have been renamed Brian Statham Way (formerly Warwick Road) and Sir Matt Busby Way (formerly Warwick Road North). The interconnecting strip of road between retains the name Warwick Road, and the southern section on the other side of the Metrolink line is called Warwick Road South. Clare Hartwell in her book Buildings of Manchester & South East Lancashire suggests Old Trafford is "part of Manchester functionally and visually and the boundary, south west of the Manchester centre, is nowhere noticeable".HistoryOld Trafford was a crossing point over the River Irwell in ancient times. The name Old Trafford possibly derives from the time when there were two Trafford Halls, Old Trafford Hall and New Trafford Hall. The old hall was close to what is now the White City Retail Park, and was said to have been the home of the de Trafford family since 1017, until the family moved to the new hall in what is now Trafford Park, some time between 1672 and 1720. The name of the area around Old Trafford Hall may subsequently have become shortened to Old Trafford. The old hall was demolished in 1939.

Visiting Old Trafford was truly emotional for me. Standing there, you can really feel the history, the passion, and the legacy of football legends who have played on this ground. Just walking around the stadium gave me goosebumps — it feels like a dream for any football fan.nnThe megastore was very full of people, but everything felt safe and well controlled. There were security guards managing the crowd, so even though it was busy, it was still organized. Seeing all the jerseys, scarves, and memorabilia made the experience even more special — it’s hard to leave without buying something.nnAn unforgettable place that holds so much meaning. A must-visit for football lovers.
Stunning stadium. Visually amazing. Nice place to take the kids for a walk round. The megastore is brilliant too, can get so much in there. 10/10 can’t fault.
Old Trafford, famously known as the “Theatre of Dreams,” has been the historic home of Manchester United since 1910 and stands as one of football’s most iconic stadiums. With a capacity of over 70,000 spectators, it has witnessed legendary players, unforgettable matches, and decades of sporting glory. The atmosphere on matchday is electric, reflecting the deep passion and tradition surrounding the club. Even outside of games, visiting the stadium and museum offers a powerful journey through football history, making Old Trafford an essential destination for sports lovers in Manchester.
Good and big stadium. Went for Manchester united match, had a different vibe with the fans. Entry areas need to be modernised. There is also a museum showing the clubs time line and legacy with the cups they have won. Food and drinks are available inside during match days, together with lot of street shops outside the stadium. You can also buy Manchester united official merchandise outside.
Going to a Manchester United game as a New York football fan was a dream come true. We stayed at the adjoining Football Hotel with an amazing view of Old Trafford. On game day, we had the Red Cafe Hospitality package and enjoyed a three-course meal before the game. The first course was a delicious and creamy soup. Next, I had the pork belly with mashed potatoes, which was astounding. Lastly, we had chocolate and fruit. While enjoying our meal we were charmed by ex-Manchester United players telling us stories of their playing days. The staff were so nice and friendly. Our seats were padded and comfortable at the Stretford end of the field. United won 2-0 and wett returned to the Red Cafe and enjoyed a drink and a wonderful meat pie. I will definitely be back. What a great time.
