Interesting modern building in the Mary Seacole Centre on Clapham High Street. We visited to see the photographic exhibition Widrush: A Voyage Through the Generations. The work by Jim Grover is very good and I recommend everyone takes it in if they are in the area. The interior of the library is also worth a look.
The Lambeth Library opens at 10am, which is too late for nurseries and schools to visit in the morning. Wandsworth Libraries are better as they open at a decent time which is more useful.
Definitely need to update open times on Google and several other ads state that coding club would be at open 2pm today, it's closed for the Easter weekend and bank holiday Monday.
Lovely space to read, lots of children's and young adult books, and a nice space for temporary exhibitions on the lower level.
Nice library. A lot of available tables to study at. But it is too loud,full of children.
The problem of this library can be easily fixed by replacing all the staff! I see other libraries having wonderful staff with welcoming, want to help and friendly attitudes. In Clapham library I don't understand how they can keep their positions while they don't help uses with a good manner and hospitality. The staff is chatting to each other all the times, rude and bossy and never friendly to children. My children don't run or talk loud. They chose the books they want me to read and piled them up near by and reading. Then one lady came and said the books need to be returned to the shelves or they have to leave the library now! I have to intervene saying the books would be returned to the shelves before we leave the library. They were now reading and she left. The library doesn't stand there for them to pass the time. It's there for citizens to use. Really hope the issues will be resolved soon. My children love to go to other libraries in Lambeth and Wandsworth but never here.
Far too noisy. No silent study zone The quiet area isn't quiet. Impossible to do any serious studying. I had to move 3 times in 2 hours to avoid confrontation with noisy users. NB I've attended this library several times at different times on different days and it's always the same. The staff, although pleasant, seem quite nonchalant about the volume within the library. When I asked if I could sit in the meeting room, I was told yes... for £11.25/hour. Needless to say I will not be revisiting this community centre/creche, with a book selection. Every library should have a silent study zone... it's a library.
The staff are not polite specially when we are with kids the library is nice but the staff are not. the toilet was closed but there were no signs that it's close ,I asked one of the staff she shout on me, no no its close a staff of library should be very polite I just ask so there is no point to shout
Absolutely HORRENDOUS! I had to wait about 30 minutes before I was seated only to be forced to move. Awful and rude security who picked up my laptop and threatened to call the police for refusing to move where staff had placed me. Totally ignorant and poorly organised staff who failed to accommodate for my sensory needs untill I burst out crying the manager let me sit in the place initially agreed. A total waste of time. This place should be closed or refurbished with new staff who actually know what they're doing.
