Was disappointed when we tried to visit this library as we thought it was open to the public. However, the staff member there did not offer any explanation about why we could not enter and could only stand at the entrance to take a photo. After trying to clarify the rules, she was still not able to provide an explanation and just kept repeating it was not open to the public; only members. Have the rules changed? 2 stars for the gorgeous library but the experience was ruined.
The library is really nice. There is only one reading room with around 110 seats. The library staff is nice. The library using a lot of the day light during the opening hours, it may be dimming when the clouds are moving. *walkin is available and no prior registration is required* *plugging place is available*
V&A itself is a masterpiece, unfortunately not being able to see the art collection library and won’t be available till 2025. Seen it just from the entrance where the photo was made. Thank you V&A for the amazing experience and amazing photography
A wonderfully calm environment in a beautiful space. The staff are friendly. The only nuisance is the limited opening times, Tuesday-Thursday. I do not really understand why this is the case and it would be more practical for it to be open at least 5 days a week.
Just visited the National Art Library and it blew my mind! So much amazing artwork and the staff is super friendly and helpful. Even my little ones were entertained. Definitely a must-visit spot for anyone who loves art or wants to expose their kids to it.
This used to be a wonderful library to visit. However, since it reopened following the pandemic it is no longer open from Tuesday to Saturday. The management have made the nonsensical decision to only open on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. The opening hours were a contentious issue before the pandemic. The library/V&A management already wanted to reduce the number of days it was open prior to the pandemic but had to back down due to public outcry. The pandemic gave them the perfect excuse. Life is back to normal now so there shouldn't be any reason why it is only open two days in the middle of the week. I will review my rating - which would be 5 stars - if the opening hours return to normal.
This is one of the most important libraries in the world. It has an amazing collection and the librarians and desk staff are fantastic and extremely helpful. They will go out of their way to ensure you have the right materials to aid and enhance ones studies. Certain reviewers below seem to have difficulties in understanding how libraries operate, they are not a university campuses, they are not environs where one brings coffee and sandwiches and has a chat with pals, this is a learning environment, therefore silence is required, and certain rules have to be respected. I am extremely grateful for such a calm place, as are many others and long may it continue.
Wonderful library. Friendly, polite and thorough staff and a beautiful setting in which to study with very high ceilings and comfortable chairs. I love the considerate rule that people cannot bring food and drink in - others can find the smells disrupting and I wish this etiquette could be observed at other libraries.
Has a nice antique feel, however your not allowed water inside which I thought was strange or a handbag however overall it has a beautiful feel.
Wonderful place with vast collections of art related titles. Sign up as free members to access the collections. No bags allowed but with a member card you can leave at the coat counter for free. Books need to be requested in advance to be done online. No pens allowed in, only pencil. Upon entry, sign the visit book, grab a seat number for the reading room, collect your books from the counter inside when the status of requested items in your list turned 'reading room'. Items in 'reading room' will be kept for you for 3 days max before returning them to designated shelves. Lap tops allowed without bags but mute it. Photography of book contents allowed unless mentioned.
