The facilities here are decent and there is a good selection of books. I debated posting this but I can see another google review here where someone posted a similar thing happening to them by this man. I was printing something out and asked if I could pay by card. He said, "You know, it's funny-- I was almost going to tell you it's cash only here but I didn't think you looked stupid." I regret it now but as he continued to berate me, I apologised profusely. As soon as I left I was in tears. I don't think this behaviour is ever acceptable. I've witnessed similar situations at this library before. I would highly consider doing sensitivity training.
I am a great aficionado of the library service as it is. And always find books of great interest and importance in every library that I visit. Be they large or small. So I was very keen to navigate myself by tube train and red bus to Streatham high street for a special meeting with Mr Paul Crooks the profound author of two great books; Ancestors and A Tree Without Roots. Paul Crooks talk was especially good and I think that he has helped to encourage a lot of people. Not just Afro Carribbean to research their own Family Trees.
Love coming here to read / study and usually the likeminded people that come here are great and respectful. Unfortunately many of times people with mental health issues are allowed to roam freely and disturb others without being told to respect others. Other than that great library
Having just moved to the area I went to this library to join, I was welcomed by lovely staff, who were most helpful. I then had a one to one with Sophia, who helped me complete an online application and advised me on another one. She was lovely, pleasant and most helpful. I was so grateful of her help. I can see myself visiting often. Thanks again Sophia
I am biased as i love libraries, i feel a warm glow in myself to be surrounded by such knowledge. Streatham library is a wonderful welcoming place with a great collection. The librarians are gracefully helpful , enhancing your experience if you should need them. Today I borrowed C# 7.0 for dummies and The Path.
I’d actually like to make a formal complaint due to a black bald member of staff receptionist shouting at me in the library because I said the way he was speaking to me was patronising. I didn’t catch his name but I’d like to take this further so does anyone know how I can do this? As I don’t want him to speak to anyone how he spoke to me again
Small in size with limited desks for self study. Chairs are plastic so can't sit for very long times. Can be a bit noisy sometimes otherwise good.
The staff treat members of the public appallingly. I saw one male member of staff threaten to ban a woman from the library because she had fines. The woman was very polite and agreed to pay the fines when she could. Completely unreasonable and disgusting behaviour. As a previous reviewer said, the staff treat people like naughty children or worse than. All the while, staff shout across the library to each other and seem to be the biggest disruption there. Very disappointed. Will not be returning.
Pleasant place with a decent array of books and films. The staff is very friendly. Unfortunately is closed on Sundays and closes at 8pm most of the remaining days - for a busy place like Streatham, it would be good if they could open 7 days a week and at least until midnight for users that need to work until later.
It’s a nice library, but there’s a bit of harassment, some customers are swearing and throwing there weight around, the library needs to do something about such behaviour, there’s children around, it’s unacceptable, also people starting conversations and asking for money, when your busy reading a book, they need to get some rules in this place
