Ground floor is small with limited seating for quiet reading . But there is an adequate study area on the first floor with clean toilets to freshen up in and a water dispenser under the staircase on the ground floor. The staff are helpful and would recommend to others for a few hours of quiet reading time.
Looking for a public library to do some uni work in I found Chelsea Library, only a short walk from South Kensington tube stop. Several signs on front of building to different things but through the double doors the library is to the left! Went looking for some desk space and found some on the second floor. Some computers available and then a section of desks for laptops. Several empty chairs when I got there, calm quiet atmosphere, would revisit!
Had the opportunity of meeting an outstanding staff at the library called Zoe. She went above and beyond to help, professional and compassionate. Thank you for being different. I was so touched. Much appreciated
I recently visited Chelsea library and had an extremely disappointing experience that has compelled me to write this review. During my visit, I was shocked and disgusted to witness a live rat within the library premises. This incident has raised serious concerns about the library's cleanliness, maintenance, and overall commitment to ensuring a safe environment for its patrons. The presence of a rat in a public facility such as a library is completely unacceptable. It not only poses health risks but also indicates a lack of proper pest control measures and maintenance practices. Libraries are supposed to be clean, serene spaces that foster learning and intellectual growth. However, encountering a rat running around clearly demonstrates a failure in maintaining a hygienic environment.
Ornate old building housing a two-level library with a good and I mean that in the strictest definition study area upstairs bathed in natural light but no wifi. Another sad example of a grand heritage building now fitted out with cheap artificial furniture for public use. Unlike some other libraries in London, this one shuts at 5, so you will be swept out of the place and into the rush-hour of city workers who probably more deserve a seat on the tube than you the library-dwelling, no wifi-complaining bookworm.
Stepping into the Chelsea Library is like entering a familiar embrace, where the love for books and the warmth of knowledge merge effortlessly. This remarkable library transcends its physical structure, making it much more than just a building filled with books. It is a sanctuary that feels like home.
Really lovely staff. There are real works of art dotted around. Statues and what not. They seem to have training courses available for people looking for work or to expand on their skill set.
It's a nice library, shame the children's section has been closed for months due to water damage. It is relatively small but has a decent light atmosphere some computers and s study area.
If you want to know what it was like in the 70s in Britain, this is the place to visit: Grumpy, obstructive staff finding excuses for not delivering any service. They are busier thinking up and enforcing rules for customers than doing anything useful. I visited on a weekday morning; there were three customers And at least four staff. It took half an hour of bureaucratic nonsense before I was allowed to use a computer, and after an hour I was chucked off, regardless of the fact that there were three Computers sitting there unused. This place is the strongest argument possible for shutting down public libraries and spending the money on something useful.
Just the perfect place to study.
