City of London Police Museum

About

A unique collection that charts the development of the City of London Police Force, from the earliest days, through to modern policing methods.

Story

The City of London Police Museum will take visitors on a unique journey, which includes the last hours of Catherine Eddowes, one of Jack the Ripper’s victims; bomb damage during the Blitz; being at the forefront of technology to counter terrorism and the current work against economic crime and cybercrime .
The City of London Police has been responsible for policing the Square Mile since 1839. Over the course of more than 175 years, the force’s priorities have remained the same: keep the City safe. It is also the UK’s leading police force for fraud and economic crime.

The purpose-built museum is a collaboration between the City of London Police and the City of London Corporation’s Guildhall Library, which is situated next to the new museum at Guildhall, the City’s historic headquarters. The Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) awarded a grant of c.£90,000 towards the development of the museum and associated community engagement. Admission to the museum is free and over 2016 and 2017 there will be a variety of special events, talks and walks, as well as a range of merchandise available.

A hidden gem and a must-visit. It was literally empty when we came - we saw nobody else there. There were two lovely guides who showed us how the police used to communicate. Definitely go if you're in the area!
Interesting for the adults. But the children found it hard to engage. They are definitely trying to cater for the children. But just didn't work for my kids. Sorry guys. But I would definitely visit again. Found it very interesting and I liked to hear the stories as you went around. I would recommend a visit.
Although smallish I rather enjoyed this small museum located within the Guildhall building complex. The museum shows a brief history of the City of London police and presents several artifacts, objects. Worth a visit if in the area.
It's only of the only police museums in London and offers a great experience. You learn about the City of London police before it started and right up to present day. They also offer audio guides which cannot be reserved so I suggest arriving early.
Very small museum but full of interesting displays and information. We'll worth a visit if you are in the area.
Nice for a 10 minute break after a full day of serious business meeting in the city. Counterfeit money. Sadly no fake passports. Real murder weapons. Surprised to find a GuideID audio tour Company is from my home town Deventer. Works fine.
A tiny museum showcasing fragments of rich history of city of london police. Plus some interesting old artefacts, cases etc. The "super spotter" face recognition game was quite good! Worth a visit if you're near Guildhall.
