Chiltern Firehouse

Story

The Chiltern Firehouse is a restaurant and hotel located at 1 Chiltern Street, Marylebone, London, England occupying the Grade II listed building of the former Marylebone Fire Station, also known as Manchester Square Fire Station. It is owned by André Balazs, a hotel chain owner, who also owns the Chateau Marmont Hotel in Los Angeles, California and The Mercer Hotel in New York City. The head chef is Nuno Mendes.Manchester Square Fire StationThe Manchester Square Fire Station was built in 1889, by the London County Council Architect's Department, "in the Vulliamy manner". "Red brick with stone dressings; tiled roof. Free Tudor-Gothic style". It initially served as a fire station, and was one of the first fire stations in London. The original architect was Robert Pearsall. Originally known as Manchester Square Fire Station (Manchester Square is nearby), it was decommissioned in June 2005 by the London Fire and Emergency Planning Authority. For some years subsequently, it had been in occasional use as an exhibition space for local artists, as there was a long and complex planning process to convert it to a luxury hotel and restaurant. David Archer of Archer Humphryes Architects acted as lead architect for the project.

We had an amazing dinning experience. The service is excellent. The staff are friendly, helpful and very attentive. The food we ordered exceeds our taste expectations, it was DIVINE. Compliments to the all chefs. The cocktail drinks was simply wonderful and refreshing. We will definitely comeback and without a doubt, we will recommend this restaurant to others.
Unfortunately, very disappointed. The restaurant was pretty empty when they seated us for brunch, and did so right next to the only other couple in the area. Then my wife ordered two oysters as appetizer and the special pasta 30£ and I ordered the Eggs Benedict for my main. They brought my Benedict at the same time as her oysters, which left her watching me eat my main, and me watching her eat her main 20 mins later. And the mains…they were essentially half serving sizes. Very disappointing. However, the restaurant seems lovely, the staff was perfectly nice, and our flat whites were good. All in all, for over £117, this rating gets no more than 1 star. Oh! And beware. They add 15% automatically for gratuity, but still have a tip-line on the bill. I find that sneaky, frankly. Poor execution, overpriced food. Sorry.
Can only comment on the restaurant for brunch. We had a great experience for brunch. We were seated immediately at the time of our reservation, at a great cozy table by the fireplace. Service was great, prompt and friendly. Food was also delicious. The waffles with trout roe, eggs Benedict with lobster and scrambled eggs with truffle all delicious and well prepared. Lobster was ever so slightly overcooked, but wasn't a huge detriment. Tea and cappucino were also great. Overall had a delicious brunch in a very cozy atmosphere.
I made a reservation for dinner and asked for a nice table as it was our anniversary and they couldn't have been lovelier — honestly the nicest staff of anyplace I have been to in London. They gave us a gorgeous table, our server was charming and helpful and the maître d and host/hostesses were delightful and engaging. The drinks and food are great, but yes, it is on the pricier side so go in with your eyes open I recommend looking at the menu online beforehand if this is a concern. They really made it a perfect night for us and I think that's important to point out as there are some reviews here that say people are rude, slow, etc., and it they made me nervous, but thankfully, that wasn't our experience at all. It was a charming, elegant, glamorous and fun vibe — everything I hoped it would be. Definitely go and experience it yourself.
Don't forget to use Hᴏᴛᴇʟʙoʟʟʏ.ᴄᴏm when booking a resort. This web site will compare thousands of booking web sites and usually will have rates much cheaper than others! Thank me later! This place is one of the highest rated in this area. I have been coming here for a long time. If you choose this place you won't regret it. Absolutely fabulous meal here. The service was first class and the food was outstanding. Every dish was amazing including the desserts. Great ambience. Totally recommend
Fantastic service. Really go above and beyond to make you feel welcomed. The oysters were sublime! I, personally, really enjoyed the Irish coast oysters. Really cute place for a date or celebrating life. Would visit again.
Always packed with guests, this eatery has evolved from a firehouse to a boutique hotel and fine dinning restaurant which serves delicious breakfast, excellent lunch delectable afternoon tea and sumptuous dinner. Even their pizzas are served with a flair. Fast developing into an icon this place is a must visitRooms: 4/5
An amazing experience in the restaurant with great food. Recommend sitting at the bar to watch all the magic in the kitchen happen. Met some and chatted with super interesting and friendly servers during our dinner. Hope they will do well! Only downside is the confusing entrance there’s another door directly opposite the restaurant entrance with not so friendly door-people.
While the ambience and restaurant space is lovely, the service and food quality is quite appalling. We were visiting from Australia and had pretty high expectations after hearing how popular it is but after dining in, it’s safe to say we won’t be here again. Yes the restaurant is expensive, but when you are paying so much money you would expect high quality food. The pizza I ordered looked and tasted worse than one from Pizza Hut and for £24, you would expect something more like a wood fired pizza, but instead it was thin and extremely oily. We also ordered an entree sized truffle pasta however when we were given the bill, they had charged us for both an entree size AND main sized pasta. Don’t waste your time or money going to chiltern firehouse restaurant.
I‘m not quite sure whether I like it or not. On the positive: the service is incredibly diligent and forthcoming, the menu offers very good fish and seafood and the prices are okayish for „one of the most asked-for places in greater London“ cite taxi driver. But: everything appears a bit like a show case and not really authentic. This includes the food which is good but doesn’t make it to the upper third in London as per my personal view.
