We stopped her on our way home from a trip to the coast, the staff were really welcoming, our food was hot and plentiful overall a lovely little pub and restaurant, I would of given 5 stars but they didn't have a child's menu so my daughter had a huge burger, which of course she couldn't finish, the Chequers also has a car park and beer garden with a nice kids play area ....so why no menu?
Warmly welcomed, nice outdoor area with kids play area, food was stunning. Staff were nice and softly spoken. We could hear the pub quiz going on a few tables away and ended up joining in unofficially and even got a few right - bonus we didn't though!Food: 5/5
Surprisingly dead on a Friday evening. Food was excellent, but service was bizarrely slow considering there was barely anyone else in there. We were stuck on a small table by a draughty chimney, which was odd when as it turned out they could have given us any table. It took 30 minutes for our order to be taken. Staff just seemed to disappear. When we asked for our bill it came and then the waitress disappeared to clean the few other tables and seemed surprised when I wanted to pay. Very strange that this isn't more popular given the quality of the food and the interesting menu choices
Really great atmosphere. Wide selection of beers both ales and lagers and was impressed with the gin selection too. Food took a while to come out, but more than worth the wait. We all had roasts the beef is pictured and so amazingly tasty; I'm not a Yorkshire pudding fan, but that was incredibly delicious!!! Desert was incredible too. Staff were lovely and really knowledgeable about beer and very attentive. Can't wait to return.
Our Christmas Day ruined. I would like to give no stars!!! We were put in a cold barn and not the pub - not what we booked. It was freezing. The door was open the whole time in December. There were no table cloths. Paper napkins. Very very cheap crackers. A candle, which remained unlit even though I requested it was lit. Not what you would expect on Christmas Day when it was £89 per person. To get to the said barn we had to go through the pub, outside and through the smoking area, which was unkempt and had dog mess on the path. It felt like going to a roadside cafe. The cutlery wasn’t even set out correctly . My glass was dirty. The service was appalling. The food was dreadful. My father had one roast potato on his dinner. The sprouts were rock hard. We had to send our food back as it was burnt. Nobody was offered any condiments not even cranberry sauce. We had a metal disc in the pudding. The table was tiny and would barely sit 4 and there were 5 of us. They told us we couldn’t put one on the end as we would be in their way. But we couldn’t fit, let alone eat. They said nobody has ever complained, but we heard multiple complaints. The table next to us left and said they would never return. We also will never return. The attitudes of the staff and owner was disappointing. I overheard a staff member complaining about the customers.
Lovely country pub, plenty of parking and kids play area. Food was amazing and the staff where very friendly. Was only visiting on holiday but if in the area would definitely go backFood: 5/5
Great pub, called on the day to book and was told plenty of seats available. Food was lovely couldn't fault any of it the waiters explained everything to us. Even down to the beers as was all home brewed
Great venue with excellent staff but most of the components on the vegetarian roast could use some work: - Came with steamed new potatoes, even though the menu said roasted new potatoes - Came with steamed parsnips and carrots, even though the menu said roasted carrots and parsnips. The parsnip was also quite hard. - No Yorkshire pudding - No cauliflower cheese - we asked about this and were provided with a small pot, which was nothing like any cauliflower cheese we've ever had - it seemed semi-pureed, no large pieces I understand that the last two points may have been because they want to also cater for vegan guests, but the steamed potatoes and vegetables were really quite disappointing. That said, the nut roast itself was really lovely with lots of great flavours. I had the sticky toffee pudding for dessert which was wonderful. We'd come again but probably on another day of the week.
Having been here a year ago & had a good meal midweek lunchtime, thought we would give it a try for Sunday lunch. It seemed one person was just taking out food from the kitchen! When our food arrived it was lukewarm. I sent it back straight away. The second time around it wasn't much hotter. The puddings were homemade but not very nice in taste. Very disappointed from our previous visit. Main gripe, when I paid I wasn't given a bill, he just read the total off the till !! Probably deleted my bill at the same time! Won't be returning.
Walked in without booking on a Monday lunchtime, friendly welcome, seated in a cosy restaurant area with open fire, perfect as it was a very wet and cold day. Very friendly waitress, great knowledge of the food, went for the seasonal offer and was not disappointed, absolutely amazing lamb burger and the hot chocolate and cappuccino cake was delicious. Would definitely recommend and look forward to going again! Which will be very soon as I left my hat there!
