If I could give zero stars I would. Don't waste your time with this company. I've tried to sell things a couple of times through CeX and it's a con. They look for the smallest reason not to give you the money for your goods, even if they are in working condition. The customer service is shocking too. I will never be selling or buying anything from here again and I'll make sure my friends and family don't either. Avoid!!!
Went in for a simple game trade in for a bank transfer, greeted by a curly dark haired guy who seemed nice at first. He opened with "are you sure you don't want cash?". I used to work at the Chelmsley Wood branch of Cex so I can appreciate a transfer isn't as simple as cash in hand, so understood why he asked this. I politely said no thanks, transfer would be ideal, stressing I would really rather not cash, we had a lighthearted back and forth, then he pulled out the cash and asked me to sign as normal. To which I asked "can I actually have a transfer though", with him responding "it's already done, it's a lot of extra work for just one game". Even despite me previously saying I'd worked for the company, so knowing full well I know both exactly how much more effort it is, and that it's entirely possible, he was determined to dodge the extra work and do the exact opposite of what I asked. I've been in the store a few times and I know this isn't representative of the whole team, but I can't deny this person came off as ignorant and lazy.
I recently visited the CEX Solihull store and had a shockingly bad experience, primarily due to the store manager, Martin. He was confrontational, rude, and completely unwilling to help. It's astonishing how little he seemed to care about customer service or even performing his job properly. When I sought assistance with an issue regarding a purchase, Martin couldn't even be bothered to give me the time of day. His dismissive attitude made it clear that he had no interest in supporting customers or addressing their concerns. Despite remaining calm in the face of his provoking behavior, it was incredibly frustrating to deal with someone so disoriented in a customer-facing role. To anyone considering visiting this store or working in a similar environment, please remember the importance of empathy and understanding when dealing with customers. Unfortunately, based on my experience, I have no confidence in the way Martin is managing or training his staff. I will be avoiding this store in the future and would advise others to do the same.

Purchased two items from the store click and collect but when came to the collection I was told that items were sold 10 minutes prior to my arrival by random person, nevermind that was reserved till same day, staf just horrible. In reply to your response. There was no timeframe stated for click and collect. And in nowadays it is so easy to send an email but why would you? I had na chance to contact store itself to make sure products are available as the only phone number takes you through national call centre with no way of getting direct contact with the store.
I have been coming to this shop for the past few years, and the experience and staff are generally great. However, some of the pricings for second hand products can be really high. For example, I saw a PS5 in the shop the other week and it had a ton of scratches on it, yet it was still being sold for £400. Another thing is that the shop is quite small and isn't very spacious. Overall, great shop!
Staff do not seem to test products properly at this store and we had to go back a second time to prove a console was faulty, even though we had explained the fault to the manager beforehand when returning it. They also accused us of putting illegal content on the returned console when in fact a different CEX store sold it to us like that. We will take that issue up with the other CEX store.
Inconsistent and Shady business practices. Bought a wii remote three weeks ago from Oxford CeX branch, and never ended up needing to use it. Took it back to this branch and the rude unhelpful and blunt sales person told me I couldn’t trade it in because it had battery corrosion inside!?, I haven’t even used it! This is totally on your quality standards that you sold controllers in this state. I’m absolutely done with CeX and Their rubbish and inconsistent policies, there are so many things on their shelf in terrible state yet give me a hard time over something that’s not even there! So finicky it’s unreal, it’s bad enough that your prices are a rip off as well post covid buying and selling is polite mugging but your service is atrocious to boot you made no attempt to make the customer happy or help them out as this was your companies fault! Every time, you make trading in as unpleasant as it is buying from you. I’ve cut up my membership card as I’ve written this.
Unhelpful bad customer service and product knowledge
Good selection of used games,blu rays and DVD's. Good hardware selection. Just one massive problem.....prices. Far to high for pre-owned goods
