Carriages Bar & Restaurant

We came here for a family lunch at the weekend. The service was very attentive and the food was really good. We had partridge which is renowned for being difficult to cook but it wasn't overdone and the sauce and accompaniments were fresh and tasty. The puddings were homemade rather than generic packet fair. I'd definitely come back for a return visit!

In area yesterday (22/01/18) looking for caravan site and called in for lunch on off chance due to getting very hungry. Had dog with us but dog friendly in bar area. Had starter of garlic mushrooms, excellent. Best I’ve had to date. Came in a lovely creamy thick sauce. Yummy but could have eaten more but had to leave room for main course. Had fishmonger sandwich. What a difference it was. Not your usual breadcrumbed fingers, but proper small pieces of battered fish in a lovely brown roll. Came with salad and there was option to swap the crisps for chips for £1 extra, which I did. The chips were proper hand made/cooked chips. With my wife being a pescatarian (only eats fish) she fancied their bangers and mash with veg, but with fish fingers instead of the bangers. They were very obliging. Worth every penny. Nice surroundings and fantastic food. Staff very friendly and obliging. Definitely recommend and would go again when in the area. I had to say , “Compliments to the Chef”.

One of the yummiest meals we have had in the UK thus far. You have to try the stilton cheese sauce. Amazing! Onion rings were wonderfully light. Cheers to the chef as both meals were lovely! We had the sirloin steak and my wife had the smoked haddock risotto with spinach. No complaints. Service from the moment we walked in was friendly and spot on.

We have just had a lovely eating experience at the beautifully decorated Carriages restaurant. The food was fantastic, the decor completely different to anything we've seen before and the staff helpful and friendly (sorry we couldnt tip you... we had zero cash with us, very embarrassing)..... We couldnt recommend eating here enough!!

What an original idea. Thoroughly enjoyed the experience and food was very good. Service was great and staff friendly.
