I am a really really nervous patient. Was so happy that I came to brightonsmiles. They made me feel at ease, explained in detail the treatment that I needed. Felt a lot more confident coming back to have it completed. Restored my faith in dentists! 😬

I would like to complain about the treatment I received from a dental practice, Bright On Smiles, Hove, East Suusex - Dr Shala Imani. 1st Dr Imani humiliates her patients saying you have tooth decay What do you do for a living? Oh bookkeepers are know to sit all day and drink coffee with biscuits. You have a very bad sugar diet. Very judgemental for a Doctor! I just felt like crying. My self esteem is not the best at times. Not once does this doctor step back and consider, I relocated back to UK from Africa after 40 years. The initial dentistry years were not kind to me. After many year in Africa and arriving in Durban, SA my dentist complained I had holes underneath my fillings. Although that was 'my problem', it was not my fault.I have signs of osteoporosis as my bone density reading in SA decreased by 5% in 1 year and this can cause fractures in the teeth. My anti anxiety/depression medication is known to have an impact on my dental hygiene and caused me to add another 6kg to my waistline. 2nd, I went back to work & had a swelling on my lip that turned into a big blister. I phoned them up & they said it was probably friction or allergy to the anaesthetic. Which I may add, she does not explain what she is about to do, but stabs the needle into your gum 4 times. Little tears rolled down the side of my eyes. The nurse asked if I am ok. Dr Imani says she has to give me anaesthetic. Yeah well there is a way far more gentle than she does. She fitted a crown and that fell out on Sunday! Monday I popped in for her to refit the crown, she said it had never happened before and couldn't understand why it came out. 15.12 - I got home that evening to find my next tooth was chipped at the top. I phoned again & on the next consultation was told about my decayed teeth & not her fault. I had also said I was not happy with the tooth she had worked on previously as it was very rough & splintered texture. She said they are a private practise so they use their products & not separate products for the NHS patients, so high quality. 29.12- prepared my chipped tooth by taking out the old filling & I said again my previous tooth was very rough & splintered texture and wrong colour. She said the eye teeth are always a different colour to the other teeth. The nurse asked if she should get something from the back & aid no she would use whatever tool it was there. She tried to smooth it with what felt like a very powerful drill as my body vibrated with the motion. She also tried with dental sandpaper but cut through my gum & couldn't stop the bleeding after trying 2 different kinds of products. She said she was sorry but my gum was bleeding (not I am sorry I cut your gum) that I would have to come back on the 3rd Jan as she did not work Tues. That the tooth had been root treated so would be fine. Admission that this was not an NHS patient day. 03.01- I explained I had never had so much toothache & sensitivity, 3 boxes of Ibuprofen later. she says it cant be painful as it is root treated. I said I did & it was extremely painful. She said she wouldn't have left it open like that. 18.01- I had called to say my tooth had not settled. We rescheduled it for 22.01 but I woke up with chest pain & rescheduled for 26.01.2017 - I explained it was sensitive to cold water, the cold wind & was painful when I bent down to do my shoes. She asked if I grind my teeth, I said yes I think so as I have a very stressful life. she said it cant be sensitive or painful as it is root treated but I can come back & she will root treat it again. I asked if it can grow back as not sure when it was done in SA. She said not. She made the appointment & I asked her how long it was I was & she said long enough. I asked how long it will take to do as I need to let my work know. The receptionist said she had been asked to make me pay another consultation fee of £20.60 and I would be charged for the root treatment also. I said I am not happy to pay as she is working on a tooth prev worked on, the NHS website it says the scope of work is for 2 months, guaranteed for 12mth.

We were 2 people at the reception waiting our turn. My turn was the one half an hour earlier. The practitioner came out and knowing that I was first, she called the other person in before me just because they knew each other. The practitioner is naturally rude and not because of this time, but I have been there before and I had the same impression. This last time I just could not believe how rude she could get to be! May be she needs to study some manners too and be professional at the same time. Really bad. I cannot recommend, I am sorry.
