Popular pub restaurant. Inexpensive pub grub. A Greene King outlet.

I visited this evening, Thursday 5th April.
This pub really has no idea what it wants to be. It ends up coming across as a pig in lipstick thanks to its warm welcoming aesthetic but the reality is much worse once you spend time there.
For starters, the food is average at best. It hasn’t improved in the ten years since my last visit.
It was my birthday today and I was treated to dinner there along with the option to catch some football.
Being a weeknight we expected it to be fairly quiet. Oh god how wrong we were.
All at once the place resembled a bingo hall, disco and pool club with the volume of club tracks pounding out of the speakers interspersed with some obnoxious staff member calling out some sort of pub quiz at volumes so high the speakers were crackling.
On two occasions a member of the clientele asked him to turn it down from what I could witness to no avail.
The back end of the pub was full of what looked like underaged drinkers gathered around the pool table and putting off anyone else that wanted to venture that way with their noisy and at times threatening behaviour.
Amongst this was a small lady with blonde hair and glasses who I was informed actually worked at the pub! If the staff there drink and socialise with such a crowd then I can only assume this behaviour is commonplace.
Not once could I hear the commentary or concentrate on the game being shown but could frequently hear the gang at the back making fun of people with Down syndrome and other disabilities to laughs from all around them.
I was that angry after hearing this that I had to leave and I will not be revisiting. Not even if you paid me.
The landlord really needs to buck his ideas up. I used to live in Abingdon 10 years ago and whilst the pub wasn’t the best it always had a good atmosphere. Tonight was an abomination and I would urge anyone to think twice before visiting.
For a better atmosphere I would recommend either of the pubs on Blackbird Leys. At least you are not deafened on a quiet weeknight.
Disgrace doesn’t cover it.

Had a very pleasant lunch here. Friendly staff and nice interior. Cheap and cheerful. Very busy on Friday nights and best avoided over the age of 30.

Had a traditional Christmas Lunch at the Boundary House today. The waiter assigned to our table of 11 was excellent. He was very attentive & accommodated our needs considerately. Sadly however, my meal was mediocre at best. My prawn cocktail consisted of a few prawns dumped on some lettuce, with the Marie Rose sauce (probably ftom a jar) served on the side in a small paper pot, all accompanied by a large (but very fresh) bread roll. The turkey dinner arrived with all the expected trimmings, which were okayish, but would have been better if the whole thing had been hotter. My plate was cold & the food was lukewarm. Disappointing! But the price was very competitive. You only get what you pay for!!!!
