Story

Borde Hill is a beautiful Grade II* English Heritage listed garden set in 200 acres of parkland with magnificent views in the High Weald. Created by Colonel Stephenson Robert Clarke from seeds gathered by the great plant hunters of the early 1900's, it is renowned for its rare shrubs and trees.
The Garden is set out as distinctive living ‘rooms’, each with its own unique style, from secret, sub-tropical dells to the sophisticated Rose and Italian gardens. An abundance of spring-flowers gives way to exuberant summer borders of roses and herbaceous plants followed by mellow autumn colour. Nestled at the heart of the 35-acre garden and woodland is the Elizabethan house, which is open to pre-booked groups.
Events throughout the open season (April to October), include magnolia and rose tours, Sculpture Exhibition, musical Sundays in August and many family events.
The café, garden tea house, restaurant, picnic areas and easy access in the formal garden for relaxing strolls make Borde Hill the perfect place for everyone to enjoy a great day out.
New this year- Two new landscape features in the Garden Dells to entice visitors.

What stunning gardens. We had a lovely day out here. They have a cafe in the entrance building and one near the White Garden. Also, they have lots of areas for picnics and loads of benches to sit and admire the gardens. The bronzes dotted around are beautiful. Well worth a visit, we will go back in the autumn to see the lovely colours on the trees.
Borde Hill Gardens is one of the most magical gardens I’ve visited. The different garden ‘rooms’ are amazing, so different and unique but somehow effortlessly transition together. For a sunny Sunday in June it was amazingly peaceful. The Italian garden with the water lilies in bloom are unmissable. The Round Dell instantly transports you to a lush jungle, but our favourite spot was Paradise Walk, a dense patchwork of bright colours. Of course the sight and scent of the rose garden in June was spectacular, but just beyond this lies the old Victorian greenhouses which have mostly been left in the care of Mother Nature and their overgrown splendour is just as beautiful as the elegance of the more formal gardens. There are two great cafes on-site, but would recommend bringing a picnic and taking it out to the lake in the parkland as this is a truly incredible spot! We visited from London on the train and walked from Haywards Heath station. The walk is pavement most of the way but leading to the gardens you have to walk along a super narrow and overgrown path alongside a road. It would be great if Borde Hill could make walking there more accessible, with reduced entry prices for car-free travel like the RHS gardens. Borde Hill accepts Gardener’s World 2-for-1 cards for any day in the season apart from special events which is great for saving money on your ticket. Please don’t miss this garden, it is paradise. Cannot wait to go back in the changing seasons!
Lovely place to visit with great trees and plants on display due mainly to their established age. The Italian garden is a place not to be missed. They possibly need a larger indoor seating in the restaurant possibly, great day out especially because the weather was fine. Dog-friendliness: Dogs are welcomed I believe but on a lead
It's a beautiful garden with lots of interesting parts. It isn't huge, so you can walk around the garden in an hour or two. The views are lovely and the staff really friendly. Worth taking annual membership as it also gives access to partner gardens. Playground: Dedicated kids playground
An amazing massive garden full of a great variety of flowers, gardens with different setups or decorations all around, such as the Italian Garden with a lovely staircase with a little canal in the middle to sit down and probably read a few lines of a book. Free parking which compensates the price of ticket. However, the staff at reception or ticket office offers plenty of options to join a membership which takes in consideration the ticket if the day. Please ask a member of the staff and they will be super happy to help. Also, you have 2 great coffee shops. One in the entrance where you can have a hot or a cold drink with a nice cake or cookie and then have lunch right im the middle of the Garden with very good sausages roll and some other very good options. Also the couple that runs the place are super lovely and friendly. Lovely place to visit. 500% recommend
Great place to visit, the gardens are just coming to life so in awhile it will look beautiful in bloom. Lovely walks around and plenty to see and also a woodland walk. There are two cafes to buy refreshments and s gift shop. Plenty of plants to purchase to.
Beautiful gardens. We went at Easter and there were a lot of plants in bloom. Lots of little spaces to explore and picnic areas. A lot of effort had gone into an Easter egg hunt for children plus there’s an outdoor play area.
Absolutely beautiful gardens with so many different species of plants, shrubs and trees. Lovely well made pathways around the different gardens. Picnic area: Good picnic area with tables and chairs.
We had a lovely time walking around this garden. The Italian garden was spectacular. Their coffee is also top-notch.
Lovely gardens and views. Statues and planting are beautiful with lots of different 'gardens'. Quite hilly in places. Delicious cakes and coffee in the grounds.
