Our party of 6 all fully enjoyed our food & the experience. We all got different dishes for the starters & mains & all where nicely presented & really good. I liked the menu as it was varied & quite interesting. I tried Pigeon for the 1st time, never saw this on a menu before followed by Duck & it was really lovely. We got a nice square table & although I read another review saying the restaurant was very small, i see that it was but this didn't affect us & we could all very easily converse in a pleasant environment. I was able to blow out my candles & eat our homemade birthday cake without any interference from the host which I really appreciated. The host was smily & waived us goodbye a simple thing but noted & appreciated. we very luckily got the 50% off food deal which obviously added to our experience & so all in all have no complaints & would return & so recommend this place... ;
I have been to Bogayo before for a quick lunch and enjoyed the food so decided to go back again for my birthday, but this time with 10 other of my friends. Initially when sat down we asked whether they took Gourmet cards, but was told that a party of our size would not receive it 50% off, but he will give us 25% off instead which was fine. Now when you have a party of 11 people, on a Friday night you are expected to make noise but the manager kept on telling us to be quiet. I'm sorry but you should not accept groups if you are going to be annoyed by any noise! We did not feel welcome whatsoever. The downside to it all is that I really liked the food, and if the service was good I would not hesitate in giving the review 5 stars, but the managers attitude he did not smile at us once! has made me give a review of 2. I will certainly not be going there again as there are plenty of places in London who offer similar food but MUCH BETTER service. He was not very happy when we refused to pay the service charge on the bill - why was he so surprised?! tip: Go there for a date if you want the whole romantic feel, but do not bother if you plan to go in a group and make a little noise!
Came here on a recommendation of a friend and it was a great introduction to Moroccan food. The plates are great for sharing so it would be best to go with others who don't mind doing that. The lamb tagine was particularly memorable because it was very tender, and the Moroccan tea was light and refreshing - great for before or after dinner.
Ive been to Marrakesh may time and I must say the food was very tasty and authentic. The service however was poor. We booked through tastecard, and we were in a rush to catch a play, so only had time for a main course. The manger told us we had to order two starters or desert to qualify for the tastecard deal. We were not told about this when we phoned and booked, also this is not mentioned on the tastecard website. The manger was very abrupt and gave us the option of ordering deserts/starters or paying full price. As we were in a rush we had to pay full price. As another review said food is great and fast, but the service needs work on. There are many great Moroccan restaurants in London for similar price and much more friendly, I advise you give Bogayo a miss.
I actually went here on a toptable 50% off deal that they seem to have running quite a lot and with that the food is good value. This time around I had the seabass with sweet potato and avocado and harissa salsa. It was tasty but quite a small portion, if I hadn't had a big lunch I would still have been hungry after. But you have to order 2 courses with the 50% off so I filled up my spaces with a sticky toffee pudding. This was better than the fig tart which I have had here previously. The place looks lovely like an exotic souk but the lighting is very dim, I had to use my phone to light up the menu! They didn't rush us at all and I got to have a brilliant long catch up with friends but maybe not the place to go if you're in a hurry
This is probably the best Moroccan near Old Street at least that I've found. The reason I've been in the past is they accept Tastecard, they have amazing tagines, mixed grill for the mains. We usually have the sangria which is odd as it is we thought, tastes amazing and also the mint tea was good. The mezes were probably the best thing on the menu because of the diversity you could get, I will be going here again as I have been here 3 times already and it is on Old Street so near where all the cool kids go to.
booked through toptable. really good morocan food, especially recommend the lamb tagine - melt off the bone tender, and sweetness from apricots. has a outdoor space for smoking sheesha as well.
Food was all very average, vibe was a bit bleak and the staff were unfriendly. Wouldn't return and I know for this price you can get a better meal in other restaurants in the area.
Favorite places to eat in Shoreditch. Delicious Moroccan food and belly dancing on Friday ;
The flavourings in the dishes we enjoyed were perfectly balanced and the waiting staff ensure a fantastic service.
