Fantastic school with brilliant opportunities. Would be 5 star if it wasn't for some of the sport coaches. My son has just made the transition into year 11 and he says that the hockey coach is a bully and chooses favourites. He said that he got the blame everytime he couldn't recieve a pass because the footballers and A team rugby players who can't pass got picked for the a team over brilliant hockey players.
do NOT go if your child needs to take public transport! School is extremely unfair and unforgiving with late circumstances and staff wont even follow their own guidelines!! I am extremely disgusted by their methods to "modify" students behavior, especially since it cannot be helped in most circumstances! Only send your child here if you are ok with near-authoritarian rules and punishments with no care for the childs or parents wellbeing!!!!
Like another user has said only send your child If you are not totally reliant on public transport as they are inconsiderately punishing students who turn up late for no fault of their own. I find the schools heavy handed approach quite inconsiderate. Even slight delays will be marked late and also given detention. This despite the fact that we often get reminders from the head urging children to use public transport over car.
Excellent pastoral support. Teachers are kind and compassionate especially English and RS. Miss Steadman, miss Sly and Mrs Steadman come highly recommended as their care and patience is impeccable. Library staff are excellent. lots of activities like chess club and drama.
I have no idea who written my previous review, but as a student at the school, I think the food is great, the teacher's are helpful and the subjects can be taught in creative ways, it's a great place to go if you are thinking of taking the 11+ test.
I studied here from 95-99. I have taught in state schools and have an understanding of the education sector. I can tell you, this school is fantastic compared to the state schools out there. Most grammar schools expect their students to put in the extra hours outside of classroom time, go away and do many hours of homework/extra study/revision. I am doing well enough in life, not a high flyer but defo not down in the dumps and I put this down to Vesey. It was my own shortcomings that I didnt receive the grades i should have to be considered a high flyer, not the schools. I can assure you, in the vast majority of cases, you're better off sending your child to a grammar school if you can - the teachings are of a higher standard, greater depth of opportunities, better discipline which allows for more teaching time, schools taking the time out to contact parents etc.
i go there and the maths and physics teachers are proper sick i have improved alot and i would recomend it to any year 6 aspiring to achieve excellence
Amazing school: awesome range of opportunities in sports, arts and drama, masses of curriculum enrichment, and top drawer examination results!
Best school and sixth form in Birmingham
This is a good school but not the best
