Nice place to go for a dog walk, route takes you past kids' park, which the children enjoyed. Nice views and decent sized car park, which is free. Seems to be lots of work going on at the moment though which does spoit it
- Free parking - Miles of paths to explore - Dog friendly - Amazing views from the top of the old pit tip - worth the walk up hill - Community Café on Saturday mornings 9.30am to 12.30pm serving hot & cold drinks at 50p and home-made cakes at £1 - Picnic tables & lots of benches around -Adventure playground for the kids - Altogether a great place for a day out
Great place to visit if you're after a proper woodland walk. There's a nice mix of easy gravel paths and more adventurous ones though thicker woodland to enjoy. The terrain is quite steep at times though, so it wouldn't really be suited to anyone with any sort of mobility issues. There's also some great open spaces where to can take in the views. I didn't make it to the lake today, but I'll be back very soon to check that out. You could easily make a full day out of visiting here and discovering all the different areas of the park.
A huge and wonderful area of ancient woodland that's not too far from the city. Lots of different species of trees including sweet chestnut. Edible mushrooms to be found on the autumn too. Well signposted throughout. Riding stables, Bestwood lodge and wooden kids play area within the woods. The lodge serves food and drinks. Can be muddy so appropriate footwear recommended
Lovely early morning walk in the woods. It was very scenic and peaceful.
Nice place for a walk in summer, best take your own drink and food no cafe open in week only on a Saturday morning there are toilets . There is a hotel, the Bestwood lodge. that's open to the public but if you use their carpark it's charged per HR best to use the two free car parks .
It is peaceful place where you can enjoy sunsets and be with friends or family.
Nice walk around this park the other day. Lots of friendly dog walkers out and about. Some parts of the park had rubbish laid on the ground which saddens me but can't say I saw any bins on the route we took. Interesting to see the old building. Not a bad park but not quite as great as the photos appear on here. Although, we didn't see the whole park.
Lovely walk with stunning views.
Lovely hotel, lovely staff, fantastic interesting old building full of character and charm. Good service and fairly cheap. Nice food. Nice bar and haunted too !! @@@####&&&&& ::Updated Dec 2022.;We stayed for Christmas time after having stayed here 2 times previously. Now owned independently and no longer by Best Western the hotel remains a fascinating old building with old wood panelling and spooky spiral staircases which were formally servants stairs are now used as emergency exits. Staff remain especially hardworking especially Declan, Linda and Rachel who deserves a special mention for going above and beyond. Unfortunately no longer dog friendly under the new owners; our dog being an assistance dog was allowed in but only after some effort and explanation of the requirements of assistance dog access under the equality act. We presented the hotel staff with a leaflet explaining their obligations under law which we hope will mean that others with assistance and service dogs will be welcomed from the offset as we eventually were.
