We booked a four-night stay at this hotel because it was close to our friend’s house.nnThe property is currently under renovation, and there are signs at check-in apologizing for the inconvenience. The indoor pool is temporarily closed, but they provide coupons for a nearby recreation center, which was a nice alternative.nnOur room was clean upon arrival, with complimentary beverages and a welcome letter from the hotel manager. However, the room felt quite warm, which might be fine in colder weather, but we had to open the window for better airflow. It was also clear that the room had been recently renovated.nnThere was no housekeeping service during our stay, but you can leave your towels outside the room if you need fresh ones.nnBreakfast was good, though it’s only served for two hours on weekdays, with longer hours on weekends.nnOverall, the stay was decent, but the renovations and lack of housekeeping were minor drawbacks.
I was with a group in mid September. My room was clean but hot as pipes running around room were very hot despite radiatior not on. Meals were very good and staff very helpful and accommodating. If you want real ale you’d be out of luck. No beer at all, just lager and expensive plus bar shut early. I think maybe bottles of Newcastle brown. Outside the hotel we found two pubs neither of which had ale or bottled beer, just lagers. Two seafront bars were closing at 9pm and nothing else going on. Quite a poor local area. Okay if you want a quiet break or a walk on the beach.
We stay here frequently for weekends away.nFood is not Brilliant but has improved last few times we stayed.nThe rooms have been updated ,nice and clean have put new mattress's.nThey have been trying.nOutside of hotel is not great. But is near the steel works and beach.
I travel regularly for work and I was so disappointed by this stay.nnFirstly, the keycard reader for each room was broken and the staff member told me it had been broken for a week. That meant every time you left your room, you had to find a staff member to let you in. This was very inconvenient.nnSecondly, the window on my floor was broken. I could not close the latch and during the night it kept flying open. I had to use a hairdryer cord to tie it to the bed frame so it would stay shut. The temperature outside was -2 on the evening in question.nnThe final nail in the coffin for me was the lack of hot water available for a shower. I let the water run for 10 minutes and it was still cold.nnI have formally complained to the hotel and asked for a full refund but I will not be staying here again.
We went to a Fawlty towers night with food as part of the package.nnI'm giving 1 star matching their hygiene rating as my wife and I both had food poisoning from the evening meal.nnAfternoon tea was pretty good. Evening meal not so good. Can't comment on breakfast, as we were too unwell to eatnnRoom was clean. Extra star for plenty of toilet roll, thankfully.nnGenerally, staff were excellent. The barman was the exception, really surly.nnLocation didn't matter as the event was in the hotel.
