The bell, has amazing food and reasonable prices, lovely friendly staff who seem happy to work there, a lovely atmosphere and lovely beer garden. I cannot say how comfortable and lovely it was to sit in there have a drink and something to eat. We ate twice in there as the full english for brunch was so good. The dinner that evening was just as amazing and there was a good selection of drinks.
Stayed here overnight with friends. Service was friendly and attentive. Single rooms were good value but will splash out on a bigger one next time. Food in the pub was nice, beer choice a bit limited, but overall experience very positive
Reviewing as a pub only ... food was alright, but the beer selection was non-existant a choice of one is not a selection. One draft ale Old Golden Hen which being light, hoppy, and summery in November? is not to my personal taste. How can a Greene King pub have neither IPA or Abbot?? Staff didn't seem to think this was at all unusual
Reviewing as Pub only. We popped in on Boxing Day for a pint after a walk around the deer park. It’s cramped but not because it was busy just because they’ve laid it out with ketchup bottles all along the one little standing area they have, and we’re drying cutlery on the far end of the bar so no standing there either! There was an off duty manager taking up one of the precious tables they do have and moaning loudly for all to hear about being asked for help from the staff to refill the lemonade machine ‘I knew I shouldn’t have come down here!’ He grumpily shouted huffing off as he went! The staff that were on duty were not welcoming and on what is a very jolly day of the year it felt very miserable and flat in there. We left and went up the road to the Black Horse where everyone was welcoming and happy! Won’t go back to the bell?
My friend and I meet for dinner each month and choose pubs in the area of Beds/Bucks. Hmmm. There was no atmosphere, we could hear the staff in the kitchen belting out tunes all night whilst cooking, my food was clearly not made on site but just warmed up from frozen, was bland, stodgy, and quite vile so I left half of it. The staff a little too over friendly and using language behind bar I would expect in a London pub. All in all it was an under whelming experience and we left feeling like we had been in that weird pub in American Werewolf in London!
