Beautiful house in a lovely setting. Great food, great service and very reasonably priced too. The roast dinner was one of the best as the Yorkshire puddings were enormous!! The sticky Toffee pudding was so light and very yummy
We got married in Belair House this month and it was beautiful. The planning process felt so organised and relaxed for us – we really had minimal stress as BH put together our schedule and were always quick to answer our questions. On the day, John/OJ were stars, keeping us on track and being on top of everything. So many of our guests and our photographer complimented on how well the day ran due to them, which was a huge relief for us. The staff were lovely and welcoming. I didn't catch the name of one of the lovely girls who were there from the start to the end, accompanying us during the ceremony and handing me drinks to calm my nerves. You were amazing! Thank you to the Belair House team!
I booked a table here after reading a post with someone recommending this restaurant. I emailed first to ask what the vegan options were, they have quite a few including a lovely dessert. I have always liked Belair House so was looking forward to trying the Indian restaurant. We ordered several meat and vegan dishes which were all very nice. We ordered way too much so the lovely waitress offered to pack some up for us to take away. We will return again : Vegetarian options: Vegan options too!
AVOID! We went today for lunch or should I say we went today as we didn’t actually get our lunch. We waited for 5 minutes and were ignored by the waitress so we walked into the restaurant, approached 2 staff who were sat folding napkins and informed them that we had a reservation, it seemed that I wasn’t understood and was then greeted by the waitress who asked us where we would like to sit. We hadn’t needed to make a reservation as the restaurant wasn’t that busy. We were given menus and about 15 minutes later given drinks menus and asked if we were ready to order. We asked if wine was sold by the glass as only prices per bottle were displayed and we were told that they don’t sell wine by the glass. We ordered our food and 5 minutes later we were asked if we would like our meat medium or well done. My partner had ordered the nut roast and I had ordered lamb. Whilst we waited 35 minutes for our food to arrive, I overheard 2 other tables complain about their orders being wrong, food being stone cold and the service generally being poor. In addition to the service being consistently slow, the food was eventually brought to our table, it was cold! At least there was more consistency. After being there for nearly an hour with no food we left. Why did we wait that long? Well we wanted to give them a chance as I had read that they had reopened on the 25th of October. If you are still reading, I’d go somewhere else for your Sunday lunch. You might also consider booking your wedding reception elsewhere as you’ll be divorced before your food arrives!
Food is pretty good, not greasy or heavy as normally associated with Indian food. Quiet day, probably not catering for food/restaurant. Staff are great, especially Sam. Really nice grounds and easy to get to, plenty of parking.Food: 3/5
I visited the newly opened 1785 restaurant last night with some friends, family and my young children. We ordered a wide selection from their new north Indian menu. The food was mouth wateringly delicious. The service was fast! Considering there were quite a few of us and the restaurant was busy. The staff were very friendly and when we had questions about what they'd recommend from the menu, they were quick to suggest some great options. The food was fresh and cooked to perfection. The dessert was fantastic! Hands down the best sticky toffee pudding we've ever had. Very different with a touch of coconut and ginger in it and ice cream on top. Overall a wonderful experience. Highly recommend for groups, date nights, catch up with friends and it's child friendly. I look forward to trying their Sunday menu! I'll be back very soon. A very special shout out to Claire who looked after our table. She was very friendly, professional and had lots of patience with the children. She contributed hugely to the 5 star experience, nothing was too much for her. Nothing better than great service with a smile : Thank you Claire. All the best, Amanda
Firstly, this is a beautiful building, the food is superb and the staff are lovely. It's just that it feels a little unloved and the decor could do with some sprucing up. The lighting is too dim, giving a kind of depressing air. Don't let this put you off though - the food is really, really good.
The new 1785 North Indian mainly restaurant in Belair House has the setting, and the cuisine, for 'fine dining'. A short and very tasty menu mainly North Indian but with a Keralan prawn dish served in the posh dining room, with an excellent bar across the hall offers very much a high end rather than high street 'Indian' restaurant experience. Everything we had seemed well spiced and authentic. Prices not unreasonable for the experience. Worth trying for a special night out. There is parking.
It’s shameful how awful Belair has become. In 2014 my parents were married here so it’s a special place to the family. But after our last meal there we will never be returning. The staff couldn’t do the bare minimum. On arrival the table we’d booked had been given to someone else. From the beginning the service was slow and the staff were unprofessional, unorganised and uneducated on the food they’re serving. Our plates of food arrived to the table at different times, when we asked why they couldn’t be served together and we were told they weren’t all ready at the same time - we all ordered a Sunday roast. Despite this, none of the food was even hot! Their menu is untruthful, some things marked vegan aren’t actually vegan. And surpassingly the ‘honey roasted carrots’ are actually vegan because they use golden syrup - not honey. When asked what came with the vegetarian meal we where first told the gravy was made with bone broth, the staff genuinely don’t know the ingredients in the food they’re serving. This is very concerning, for people with diary requirements and allergies! The staff also don’t understand the concept of vegetarian and vegan food. When we ordered the vegan roast it came with Yorkshire puddings that we’re marked vegan on the menu, but they actually contained dairy and egg!!! Even the meat eaters meals were incorrect and not cooked to the specifics given. We communicated clearly and patiently with the staff, however they were so rude and unhelpful. If a cheap pub can successfully churn out decent hot Sunday roasts and not have a menu full of concerning mistakes then I actually can’t understand why a place that panders to the luxury market can’t do such basic things. Disgraceful. Dietary restrictions: Avoid this place at all costs if you have dietary restrictions, or worse, allergies!! Their menu is full of mistakes. Food that’s marked as vegan isn’t actually vegan. Ingredients mentioned on the menu are swapped out for other ingredients.
