The Tankard
"Steeped in local history and a former haunt of Charlie Chaplin, this Victorian public house has an incredible view of the neighbouring Imperial War Museum from the roof terrace. Our classic combination of great beer, delicious food and awesome atmosphere makes this pub one of the finest places to host a party in London or just drink the night away on the terrace and watch the world go by."

This was a 5/5 experience. We had come to London for the day and was visiting the IWM and upon searching for restaurants nearby the Tankard come up and the food looked nice on the images and and the menu looked lovely. We entered 30 minutes prior to our booking just due to trains and they showed us our seat and it is a lovely little pub. You can tell the food is cooked from scratch, none of it was reheated of frozen, it was delicious! But the people in the pub were very friendly. It's dog friendly, and we even made friends with a little Jug who was so sweet and her owners were super kind. The staff though? Incredible! Best service I have seen in a pub in a long time. They genuinely seemed happy to be there serving the customers. Whoever was working there on 23/4/23 around 1:30-3:30 thank you. You deserve a raise as each member of staff we encountered was LOVELY
A really lovely Brew Dog pub. Feels more like a small community than a pub in the middle of central London. Great selection, good food, and incredible rooftop.
Took the kids here for lunch. We had the Wing Wednesday deal and the cheese burger. The chicken wings were still crispy after having been drenched with sauces. That’s always a good sign for me. The fries were nice and crispy too and was a generous portion. The kids loved their meal. I was very impressed with the quality of the burger. Service was excellent, staff were attentive. The bar lady explained about the kids menu portions, so we decided on the adult version instead. It’s a lovely and clean pub with Christmas ambience. Glad l finally tried this place out. Will be back for the roast soon.
Really pleasant interior and very friendly waitress. Menu has enough variety. Oddly adult cheese burger and child cheeseburger are identical size portion bread, burger, chips but they are £11 + extra for chips!!! va £5!?!? I had a salad bowl which was very tasty except for the avocado which was inedible, it had been frozen !. I pointed this out and would have expected apologies or a minimum discount or something like a complimentary coffee. None of it came, and for this poor customer service approach we will unlikely be back!
Love this place. Come to this pub at least once a month. The staff are amazing, and so is the food and beer. I like to go a bit early and get a table and just people watch. A lovely place for an afternoon.Food: 5/5
We came here after a visit to the war museum. The food was outstanding and Phillip was sooooo nice and helpful and was awesome to our kids. If you are visiting The Imperial War Musuem you must stop here. Thanks Phillip for the hospitality.
Amazing place to chill out with friends and family. The balcony is nice and there is also a little history to it. It was constructed this way overlooking the old hospital to remind patrons on the abuse of alcohol and where it could lead. When in the balcony, don't forget to look up the tree outside - it has the names of all the Apollo 11 astronauts. No one knows who has put them there as a tribute. Don't miss to have the spicy Buffalo wings and fish & chips - both these are super yummy. The drinks are awesome as well. Quick and friendly service. Hope this review helps!
I celebrated my birthday in their roof terrace room, a brilliant location with lots of charm and great views of the park of the Imperial War Museum. The team at The Tankard were amazing throughout and looked after us very well. This is a superbly managed pub with really friendly staff, great food & drinks. I can thoroughly recommend them for hosting an event. Thank you so much to Rachel, the manager, and her team.
Really nice little pub. The roof garden is lovely in the hot weather. Prices are fine considering it is almost Central London. Good place to go after a trip to the Imperial War Museum. The sample and chips was tasty. Dog friendly too.
Great Sunday roast, great service at the bar. Gave only 4 stars because the app or the order table wasn’t working and people didn’t come round with the unlimited gravy/Yorkshire puds that were promised on the menu which was a shame. But luckily it was a big portion, atmosphere overall was good and would go again! My dog also loved the fuss!
