Arriving within a week of the hotel reopening after being bought by Caledonian Travel i can only hope they keep the same level of service up in future.nnThe staff were attentive, helpful and polite and the meals were great, nice food with the sort of options people want, the bangers and mash were great and the food in general was better than any of the other Caledonian hotels i have visited.nnOur room 121 clean and comfortable although bedside electrical sockets and cabinets would have been appreciated for phone charging. The bathroom looked recently refurbished and the shower was nice and powerful, no dribble here that's for sure.nnThe evening entertainment was fine with cash bingo and singers although it has to be said the 1950s still seem to dominate its 76 years ago chaps!, there was a mix of 60s, 70s but sadly only a brief dip into the 80s. It's a shame but the snooker table and dartboard as seen in some older reviews appear to have been removed and the outdoor pool is long gone.nnHilly best describes the location so if you have limited mobility it's probably best to hire a scooter from a local firm.
This hotel used to be amazing. I was fast introduced to this hotel 15 years ago under Melville Hall Utopia Spa. Yes it became a bunch of other hotels after that however the hotel was decent with a really nice hot tub sauna Jacuzzi and two poles with an amazing Whirlpool outside. I used to sit where's my ex partner outside and that will port even when it was snowing and it really was a surreal experience zero degrees outside and like 40 degrees in the water it was amazing. Rooms were dated but not horrendous then the new owners took over run it into the ground took payments about permission put stupid discs up of everything in the room and then try to charge you for it if evenly spoon with missing. Now the pools have been filled in there is no spa facilities no massages don't expect to sit outside by the pool and sunbathe and don't expect any sorts of jacuzzi because it's all gone.nnThis hotel is a shadow of its former self and it's for myself wasn't great to be fair so really is probably most likely the worst hotel on the Isle of Wight..
We were the first guests since the refurbishment and the staff must give themselves a good pat on the back especially when it came to meal time.nNice ground floor room with a patio door to look over los altos park.nEasy check in.n15 minutes to walk to the seafront.n2 mins to the nearest bus stop and 5 mins to the train station excellent way to get to Ryde
We stayed here Feb 2026 caladonian have just taken over. The hotel has has extensive redecorating which is good. The staff amazing very helpful and accommodating. The food was terrible. Fried food terrible quality awful portions sizes. We spoke to the operations manager and expressed our disappointment his response was it was a budget experience. Very very disappointed
We are here now and it's a really wonderful hotel .We arrived on Monday at 530.Long journey but comfortable coach .The driver Paul was so good too .We've been to this hotel years ago and enjoyed this trip then .Manager came and explained about keys etc We were soon in our room lovely and clean and warm.Evening meal in large restaurant 3 courses all well cooked and tasty.Went into the entertainment room. .We had a great mix of entertainers all very good .On Thursday this really funny singer .He reminded me of Tommy Copper only problem we had to be up really early on Friday to catch 9 o'clock ferry that people were gradually leaving and he had a joke for each time .I wish we could have stayed till the end Great Bingo and 4 free drinks .Brilliant staff everywhere all pleasant .Thumbs up to the staff we were first party there since it was taken over and they all did an amazing job.Thank you for a great stay .
