Beautiful old English Inn. Arrived here by chance due to a problem with the place we had originally booked but this was a lovely surprise. The staff were friendly, the room a good size & we slept really well. Breakfast was fantastic. Proper meaty sausages, thick bacon & perfect poached eggs. Will definitely stay here again.Rooms: 5/5
We had stayed here previously, and was dog friendly, so we booked B&B here again. On arrival we asked if possible to have evening meal, confirmed it was available from 6pm, so I asked for menu to choose in advance, chap said he didn't have the menu, but there would be lots of choice, though could not be specific. Went for meal to be told we would have to wait a while, but not sure how long, as 'the table is in use', although lots of empty tables around. A bit confusing, however we went for a walk. Food arrived soon after we ordered. Unfortunately, my wife had to send her burger back as it was raw in the middle; on return of her meal, her accompanying fries were totally dried out...burger not nice and was fed to our dogs. I had lamb shank with mash and 'wine sauce' which was dry red congealed lumps. Service was polite but disorganised... requested coffee or tea, but none available! Next morning, tea and coffee served without milk, we obtained on request, but had to ask for more for cereal! Empty cups and saucers were on table, but instead of pouring into them, our tea and coffee arrived later in large cups with no saucers. Toast arrived 20 minutes before anything else. All very strange.
Worst Cajun chicken burger I've ever had, for £16 you get a chicken breast with NO Cajun spice, processed cheese slice and pre frozen chips. They only had 1 dessert! Ashamed to say it's my local pub. Def would not recommend. On the positive side the bar staff were excellent and the atmosphere was good.Service: 2/5
Ok pub, gives off a ‘locals only’ vibe where strangers don’t feel welcome. We were stared at by the regulars at the bar and bar staff ignored us to pay the bill until I went to the bar to pay it. Looks like a decent pub from the outside but left a bit disappointed, won’t go back.
Room is very clean and sheets are as neat as new. Very quote and peaceful large rooms. Lots of tea coffee cookies in the room . Attached pub has a billiard table and nice music . Big free parking space . Wonderful breakfast served by the pleasant Mark . Couldn't be better
We stopped here overnight on our way from Dover to North Devon to break up the journey and found it very comfortable. The ensuite room was great as was the evening meal and breakfast. Couldn't have been better.Rooms: 5/5
Lovely place, excellent service, good food, and excellent selection of drinks. Rooms on the small side, great bathroom though! Breakfast is a mustRooms: 4/5
Mark has recently taken on the barleycorn inn. I stayed here for nearly a month. Accommodation was fantastic, very clean and maintained very well. The pub is a great local pub that welcomes visitors with open arms and the regular drinkers and eaters are also very pleasant. Mark him self goes above and beyond and always does a great job in hosting , pouring and cooking . Great menu and food cooked well. Will definitely return and recommend to anyone be it a pint , meal or room that they require. Highly recommended.
3 of us had an evening meal , Fish platter good but whitebait overcooked, burger was good . Fish pie lacked taste , mash was very pale not browned on top sauce in pie watery , vegetables over cooked , chocolate brownie very runny but was nice. Asked for a coffee , just a normal coffee , they couldn't provide coffee , so asked for a tea they couldn't provide tea ! They are a B& B ???????? Originally asked to sit outside but smokers in annexe , top garden needs immediate attention to make it a place to eat outside , it wasn't good, no room in bar area so put in breakfast room , it was better than being in smokers areas or not existent garden dining area ! New tables and chairs needed in garden and some gardening ! I know you are new owners but it's no excuse , will give you another try when you've sorted out garden and provision of hot drinks ! The two young people who served us were brilliant and attentive , it's not their fault no coffee or tea and a not good fish pie ! or that garden area not good I hope they got some of the tip we left . We declined going to the pubs in Ducis where we live to come to you . Sorry but we were so disappointed . Hope you sort out the basics .
This a great country pub with a great atmosphere. The rooms are very comfortable and very quiet at night. It's an ideal location for all that Salisbury Plain has to offer, we went to the Hawk Conservatory and Thruxton Race Circuit.Rooms: 5/5
