One of the better Avis locations I’ve had to deal with recently. Staff were excellent and I got a choice of vehicle, despite the snow.

Easy to sort everything from signature to car pickup. The car wasn’t clean externally but the weather has hindered it. Not an issue.

Perfect customer service from the team at Bletchley. You guys rock! We turned up in the middle of a snowstorm. Before they even one we were customers we were handed steaming cups of tea and made to feel welcome and at home. The car was perfect (the car that was allocated had an engine management light on so we got a free upgrade) and got us from Bletchley to Edinburgh despite the best efforts of the "Beast From The East". This is the way customer service should be done.

DO NOT rent a vehicle from this location. The various “pre authorizations” for £300+ we’re not refunded. I had to call the EDI desk to be informed that the money is being kept for “damage”.  

The EDI rep stated they have photos of “small chip and scratch on the front left passenger door”. I was not given additional info and was directed to call the main customer service help line. 

The customer service rep stated a damage note is made on the file but no details given on the damage. I directed her to the damage report of the rental agreement where damage is listed on the front left door! These crooks are trying to gouge me for pre existing damage! 

I am in the process of disputing this charge. Save yourself the hassle and DO NOT, ever, rent a car from this AVIS location. 

I will provide an update on the resolution of my claim.

UPDATE: Feb 25, 2018

My claim is now resolved though my credit card company. Avis insisted I caused the damage. 

I recommend you take a detailed video of the exterior and interior of the car before and after your rental. I know this is the last thing you’d want to do after an international flight but may save you some headaches down the road. 

My overall experience with Avis was very poor and I do not recommend using this company, especially at this location.

The staff in store are helpful and efficient although avis as a company is awful in the policies it uses. Wouldnt bother taking out excess protection which is supposed to "ensure you pay no excess incase something goes wrong" as they will just claim accidents as "gross neglegence" which is not covered. Absolute scam. 

Anybody you deal with to dispute charges made on your account will tell you they dont work for avis, they just recover money  on behalf of avis.

Very poor experience.

Visiting Scotland from the USA. Rented a Ford Fiesta. It had a couple of dents in the hood when we rented, but no other obvious damage. 100 mi north of Edinburgh (on a highway, not some country road) our front left tire blows out - the outside, hard part of the tire. Scary, dangerous. We go in to change it to the spare, but here is no nut wrench supplied in the car!!! Have to call for assistance to put in the spare (a donut), etc etc, then wait for a replacement tire to be available in Fort William. As they were finally changing the donut they noticed a BULGE IN ONE OF THR REAR TIRE! Had to get that tire replaced.

All this wasted time on a holiday. But we were at least thinking Avis was picking up the tab for supplying us with a defective car not even equipped with a functioning jack and a wrench... wrong!!! They just charged us £188 - we saw it on the credit card statement. At the same time, they provided no documentation that we could give to our insurance company. 

Here in he US, I called Avis, but they are telling me that "overseas they can take 30-40 BUSINESS DAYS" to come up with the response. That hey are really not part of Avis "as such"...

At this point, since there is no documentation to file with my insurance company - and they also have rules that a claim and supporting documents have to be submitted in a timely manner - I am calling my credit card company to stop these charges.

Oh, and I did try to call Edinburgh Avis location - using my own money, of course - but they are not reachable. You get transferred to a central UK reservations number. Beware and don't rent from these jokers.
