I had the best experience with Avis, I have rented cars all over Europe with more than 10 companies and these guys just continue to do well. I was greeted by a gentleman called Malek I think, he was from Poland at the rental center at EDI. He is a real asset to the company and brand, gave me an upgrade from a GLB to a GLC as we had lots of cases and this was more suitable, the infant car seats was brand new which was a big perk. I will not have any hesitations of who to use next time I’m in Scotland & deposit was returned within 24 hours of returning the car out of hours which was very easy. Thanks again!
I regularly travel to Scotland and have rented cars with Avis an a few other companies. Avis generally does well but this Christmas they really stood out.nI was arriving from Madrid quite late in the day 11.30pm and even though I had booked the car for 11pm my honest mistake they honoured it and waited for me and my family.nOn top of that, the flight was delayed and Tilly Lopez had to stay at the counter till almost 2am in the morning, way past closing time for us. Thanks Tilly!nShe greeted me with a smile and helped me through check in, to get a better car and to get adecuate insurance cover this would become relevant later on.nThe car a volvo xc60 was impressive, well equiped and in excellent condidtion. Totally worth the money for my 6 days stay.nnFinally, on the day of my return I got a flat tyre and given the fact I was on my way to the airport, I got it repaired in a local workshop and paid for it myself. I did call the help line and explained the situation and they referred me to the check out personnel.nUpon arrival, they were polite and reimbursed me the repair on the spot without impertinent questions or absurd bureaucracy. I was really relieved and got on my way in less than 15 minutes.nOverall, a great experience, particularly because it was not your usual run of the mill rental.nThank you for making my Christams rental uneventful in the best possible way!
They rented us a car. The shifter went out on us when we were by the Glorifinin viaduct. It took them 9 hrs to get us back to edinbourough area. It should of only taken 3 hrs. We couldn't get a new rental because they had no one at their office to check us out a new car by the time we arrived near edinbourough at 2 AM. We told customer service that we had no way back to the car rental and would need a ride back due to how far of a drive our air BNB was from Edinbourough 1 hr drive They wrote down that we wouldn't need a ride back. We found out the next day when we called asking for a ride back being that we were stranded. It took us an 3 hrs to find a cab that would take us to their rental area at the airport costing us 75 pounds on our dime. It left us with no time to see Edinbourough. It sucks when you've spent $1000's of dollars to come visit and it's thrown out the window because your car rental customer service is piss poor. What sucks even worse is when your wife is pregnant and has no where to use a restroom out in the middle of nowhere. Your customer service was neither helpful nor useful. It was a very unpleasant time. Your customer service reflects how much you value the money over your customers.
My car broke down while driving on the highway alternator died and vehicle lost power and I had to wait 4.5 hours for a tow truck. When I arrived back at Avis to return the car they cared more about checking the car for damage than my safety from driving their broken vehicle.nnUPDATE: Avis attempted to offer me one day off the rental, which in no way addresses the fact that they provided me with an un-roadworthy vehicle and endangered my safety. Don’t rent from Avis unless you want your holiday to be ruined!!!
When renting a car abroad, one may become stressed with different rules, regulations, fees, and types of vehicles. In my case, none of this was true. I have only positive things to say about Avis and the EDI location specifically. The manager, Mikey, was an outstanding person. He was unbelievably friendly, professional, and honest about everything. I wholeheartedly couldn't have asked for a better experience. It was 07:30 o'clock in the morning, and even though you might expect someone to be a little cranky or bogged down working so early, he was full of energy and smiles. Mikey didn't try to upsell me at all with packages or better vehicles. When I informed him of my travel plans, and he saw the size of my luggage, he educated me on what I needed. I had thought a Fiat 500 would be sufficient for my massive suitcases and plans to travel up north to The Highlands, but I was mistaken. Again, Mikey was completely transparent. He told me it was absolutely doable and not a necessity to choose a different vehicle. It came down to comfort and peace of mind. He was compassionate enough to take us outside and show us the size of the car, as well as let me sit in it and get a feel for it. After some careful consideration, I decided a more substantial vehicle would be a wise choice, and I was correct. The Kia Sportage is a phenomenal machine. Heated seats, heated steering wheel, Lane Keeping Assist, Steering Assist, and 50mpg for an SUV! Even though it is massive compared to a Fiat 500 or Kia Picanto, I had no trouble even as an American driver cruising the narrow, winding, cobblestone streets of Edinburgh City Centre, or Glasgow City Centre, for that matter.nnOverall, there is no question in my mind that I will be visiting Bonnie Scotland and Avis at EDI again. Pleasant, easy, and speedy are some of the many positive adjectives that come to mind when describing my experience with Mikey and Avis. Hassel-free and real person-to-person customer service. Mikey, you rock!
