Great place to visit in Liverpool. Place of historical significance to the area. Tour guide was very informative and passionate about sharing the history of the place. Volunteers continue to dig with new discoveries. When we went, there was a group of people who had worked in the area but were only visiting the tunnels for the first time. The atmosphere was vibrant with typical Liverpool hospitality. Good place to visit. There is free parking in the area. Worth a visit.
Fascinating. The tunnels get no funding at all, our enthusiastic tour guide was a volunteer. You don't get to see that much of the tunnels but it's well worth the £5, for the 45 minute tour.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNot sure
Very entertaining guide Billy, and a fascinating, if brief, insight into a little known and philanthropic entrepreneur. The tunnels are amazing.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYes
Fascinating tour by a volunteer guide who clearly loved the history behind the tunnels. She brought the tour to life. It’s a pity they aren’t in receipt of major funding and they should charge more. Williamson’s model of philanthropy needs to be applied today making needy people feel worthy and providing them with skills through paid work.
This is one of the best and most interesting Liverpool attractions. The guide was telling amazing stories about tunnels and people of Liverpool, it was so interesting to listen. Thank you a lot! Definetly worth a visit. And a price is just 5 £, it should be more.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNot sure
Although very interesting I believe if we had visited with the Friends of Williamson Tunnels we would have got a much better idea of the extent of them. But definitely an interesting afternoonVisited onWeekend
Really good tour, in the begging me and my family didn’t put a lot of faith on it, but after we did it… it’s amazing!! The history is so interesting and captured you from the start. Also, the guide is an amazing guy.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYes
We went a couple of weeks ago and loved it. It was a really unique experience and a fascinating glimpse into the life of an eccentric and rather mysterious philanthropist who helped to shape Liverpool's history. Our guide, Pat, was very knowledgeable, eloquent and good humoured. It would be wonderful if this place were to receive higher levels of support, as the project has really only been made possible by volunteers who help to run the centre and give up their weekends to continue the excavation efforts. Be sure to call up in advance to arrange a place on a tour. You then pay on the door by cash or card.
Good guide but you hardly see any of the tunnels. Mostly just informative. If they want to make this a good tourist or otherwise destination in the future they need to do a lot more work to make more of the tunnels part of the tour. It has a lot of potential but there is still a long way to go. Hopefully it can be a good place to go in the future.
Spent a really interesting hour or so here. The guide was informative and friendly. What a strange place it is,nobody really knows why Mr Williamson created the Tunnels but they are fascinating! Wear something waterproof as it can be damp and good shoes.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYes
