What an absolutely amazing place! I have to say I was a bit apprehensive to start as it didn't look like it was going to be much from the entrance, but WOW what a gem is hiding behind those doors! We went in Feb half term and it was their first outdoor shows of the year, and they'd not had chance to rehearse because of the storms, but they didn't disappoint. The staff are so knowledgeable and had a great sense of humour when dealing with the animals, and I'd like to say special thanks to the young man who kindly got a snake out at the end of the day for my daughter to touch, as we'd missed it during the day. He then gave us a wonderful talk about the otters and re opened the lemur enclosure for us. They all care so much for the animals and the conservation of them. We will most definitely be going back to see the big bird flying display and taking other family with us. 100% recommend a visit.
Really enjoyed our visit. The place is really well designed/built and looks amazing! The wallaby walk through was great- the staff gave us some bamboo to feed them which we haven’t experienced before. The lorikeets shortly after were really interactive- we were given little pots of nectar and they landed on you to feed. There was a good selection of animals, and the staff were friendly some were quite young and not so confident with the public, not an issue. Highlight of the day were the animal shows- especially the bird show. It was awesome to see some of the birds in flight, and the finale of 30+ birds all flying around set to music was amazing- something I’ve never experienced anywhere! Thought it was a little pricey before we went, but the animal shows were easily worth half the ticket price alone. One thing that would be great would a refreshment kiosk- it was quite a hot day and we would have gladly purchased drinks/snacks. Great place, will certainly revisit!
Amazing place, perfectly sized so that you're able to see everything without feeling like you've missed something. The animals are evidently adored by staff, all of whom are engaged, pleasant and approachable. Halfpenny Green is a great location and the park is surrounded by independent businesses that are all worth visiting. All in all, highly recommended.
Our favorite local place to visit. It's a small zoo with a huge heart. The exhibits are great and the animals are very well looked after, you can tell the staff genuinely care and love working there. The bird show is superb and an emotional experience, it makes me cry every time we go.
Had trouble booking slot online after tickets purchased but called and lady I spoke to was very helpful. Great free flying bird show, awesome animals and mostly exceptional staff. Only negative interaction was one lady manning shop an hour or so before closing on her own who wasn't particularly pleasant or helpful but didn't spoil our day.
Great place to visit as a family and take the children... small shops to look around, that sell lovely things to purchase...nice restaurant that does hot and cold food and then there is the wild zoo... although small it is a lovely experience especially the bird show! Friendly knowledgeable staff. I would definitely recommend and I will be going back!
I took my son and nephew here alongside my wife. Being the first time to visit this place, I had 0 expectations. On the entry, you proceed through a path where you get to first see Insects and spider. You then proceed outside where all the different animals are in their own areas. There are shows in the outdoor ambitheathre every 1-3 hours. The shows are worth the wait and the presentation by the staff is absolutely second to none. I was thoroughly impressed, as were the kids! Aged 6 and 7. The bird show was so good, I think the ticket price justifies this alone. Being a sanctuary for endangered birds, this place is definitely worth supporting and visiting. We arrived at 10:30 and left for 1. On site there is a restaurant and deli which means you can book a table on arriving for when you expect to be finished. Very convenient. Make sure you first buy a ticket, and afterwards, book a time slot as they need to make sure the venue isn't overbooked with people due to it being smaller than conventional zoos.
We went here the other weekend and loved all the animals there, getting to pet some animals is brilliant the staff are patient and kind but what blew me away and made me feel like a kid in full blown wonder was the bird show it was beautiful!! the amount of times I nearly cried was ridiculous. It’s a smaller place then others We’ve been to but there’s more care shown to these animals then the bigger zoos. Please go here I promise you won’t be disappointed.
We really enjoyed our afternoon here. It’s not an overly big place and therefore doesn’t tire you out like a huge zoo can, especially if you’re visiting with young children. We really enjoyed every part of it, lots of animal encounters such as feeding the lorikeets and petting the emu and tortoises. Some of the turantulas were hiding away when we arrived, however we got to see the majority of the animals and the kids loved it. The 2 shows we got the afternoon ticket at 2pm & 3pm were fantastic. The staff are really knowledgeable & clearly care very deeply about conservation. During the bird show, planes were flying from and around the nearby airport in front of us. We were treated to a show from a fighter jet at one point! However, the bird show at 3pm was stunning, quite simply the highlight of the visit.
I thoroughly recommend this little zoo. Conservation is at its very heart. Its not big but as a family we spent several lovely hours here and the bird display was amazing. The most breathtaking display I've seen for years. So many birds flying at the same time from vultures to storks, pelicans to parrots. I would happily pay the entrance fee just to watch this display again. Please support this little enterprise
