Good value and honestly a great place to stay near Dublin. Wonderful location, truly unbeatable. The rooms are a bit worn but clean and cared for. Due for a refresh but the staff clearly does a good job. Very nice bar and good amenities nearby. Rooms: Worn but comfortable. AC is a bit lacking. Nearby activities: Spectacular beach, acceptable food, shared lot with sauna and ice bath. Safety: Felt very safe. Good area. Walkability: Cab or annoying sequence of busses/trains to Dublin, but if you wanted to be here you'd not have to leave. Food & drinks: Good bar, nearby food options seem fine.
Great service from the staff. Rooms were clean, adequate and nicely kept. The rooms are recently decorated but dated, the shower is barely big enough as a 600mm x 600mm cubicle, which is challenging for us larger chaps, but nevertheless functional. Rooms have tea and coffee facilities, with disposable paper cups, I personally would prefer a china cup, but the paper cup was ok. The big plus for this hotel is the location. It’s about 3 miles from Malahide, which is a bustling seaside town, but White Sands being in Portmarnock has a more rural aspect and stunning views to the sea, waking up to the waves breaking on the beach 30 metres away was a real treat. We had to get up early for the ferry and enjoyed a gloriously beautiful sunrise. Portmarnock is also well placed for Dublin’s East Wall Ferry Terminal, our drive to the terminal at 06.30 on a Sunday morning was about 30mins.
Stayed here for a little get away. 1 night. The room I was in the bed wasn’t the best. I told the staff and was offered a different room they were very accommodating. Hotel could use a little updating but the rooms where clean and the staff and views were amazing. Breakfast also was the nicest I’ve had in a hotel so far. Will definitely be back. Thank you.
Bar service excellent. Quality of the pint of Guinness, excellent. Price also very good. Can't comment on the rooms as I have never stayed here.Service: 5/5
Let me just start off by saying I wasn’t expecting a 5 star hotel, I’m fine with motels and I’ve stayed in quite a few. I don’t need expensive furnishings or a plushy bed if I’m just staying a night. However, I do kind of expect a certain level of cleanliness if I’m paying to stay in a room. The actual bedroom was okay but the bathroom was a bit… hairy. There was hair in the bathtub, stuck to the walls, a few on the floor, one on the towel rack and on a towel. And as a special treat one underneath the towel I had just used to dry my face. So that was not great. They were all brown or black and I’m a blonde so I knew I hadn’t spontaneously shed when I walked in as well. Additionally my room smelled distinctively like nuts??? I asked my sister to come check it out to see if I was insane but she agreed it did indeed smell like nuts. Fortunately her room did not but that’s luck of the draw I suppose and I was left with the nut room for the night she did not want to switch rooms with me. I tried to open the window to air it out but it wouldn’t budge and I didn’t want to break it. The washroom garbage had also not been emptied since the last guest and I’ll spare you the details of the underside of the toilet seat. A piece of wood also fell off the bottom of my door when I closed it so that was an extra bonus. It’s a beautiful location and walking along the beach before heading to sleep was the highlight of my day. It’s just unfortunate wiping my face with a towel that was on top of a strangers hair was the lowlight. I would give it a bit of forgiveness if it was cheap but for the price it’s RIDICULOUS. Overall the place has a lot of potential, and the view really is stunning. I just don’t think giving the rooms a proper wipe down between guests is a lot to ask. And maybe some fabreeze… Rooms: Dirty, hairy and smelly. What more could you ask for?
Few of us stayed recently for a gig on Malahide Castle Gardens. My room was awful, holes in the curtains, tiny double bed even though we requested twin room. Half the lights didn’t work and the bathroom was in need a total refurb. In fact my brother booked and paid for the same and clearly they had refurbed his bathroom including rituals soaps etc when mine was some cheap stuff. The pictures tell the story. Our room was roasting! We couldnt turn the heating off so had to ask reception and no air con in the room. The bar food was not good at all. I got chicken curry and it was rice swimming in liquid with cheap chicken and hard carrots. We paid a lot of money for the room £200 for one night and not including breakfast and the only good thing it had going for it was we were able to get a bus to and from the gig.
Great value!we recently stayed and had a great experience. Staff were very good especially Lorraine in reception. The room was good, clean with a comfy bed and good shower. The hotel is in need of a facelift but that wouldn't bother me. We got a great deal for 2 nights. I think people are paying ridiculous prices through third party sites so they should book directly on the hotels site. Great location and only a short journey to Malahide,Howth or Dublin city centre. We will definitely be back .
Called into the bar for one pint, which was good. It’s an ok bar nothing special. What was not good was having to pay for parking… at 8pm in the evening.. it’s a bit stingy charging customers to park.. I will not be back just for that reason.Rooms: 3/5
Old fashioned hotel. The rooms were basic, and the food and bar were good. Great location. Dropped a star as there was no TV service in the room. Walkability: Lovely walk along the coast into Malahide.
We live in Dublin and decided to spend a night here to get away from the city for a little bit. Worst. Decision. Ever. 1 star only because 0 is not an option. This is by far the worst experience I’ve ever had on the entire island of Ireland which I have travelled extensively. Some of the staff are rude, racist, homophobic and aggressive. An older man name John Harman became extremely confrontational with us regarding our service dog despite us having made a note on the original booking and presenting all paperwork and registrations for the dog. He screamed at us asking loudly ‘what kind of disability do you have?’ And ‘dogs are NOT ALLOWED’ despite the female staff telling him that they had allowed registered service animals before. We felt like he was about to get physical with us when he stepped away from behind the desk to meet us face to face with literally 20 cm between us. Mind you, we are about 5 feet tall and this person towered over us. We were forced to eat all meals in our room and were made to feel extremely unwelcome and borderline fearful of this individual. Be careful when booking here. I proceeded to take pictures of the certificates on the walls in hope that I could escalate this behaviour to the highest authority. Discrimination at is very peak.
