Greeted with a warm welcome by the guy behind the bar and the friendly locals. We picked a few bits of the starters menu for 3 of us to share and the food and service was superb and well priced too. The girl that served us at the table sorted water and gave us some biscuits for our doggy too. Cracking pub 20 seconds off the A303 and we wouldn’t hesitate to stop in again. Bravo
Very nice lunches. Friends enjoyed their roast. Only criticism was that the Lamb was a little tough. Good portion sizes. My veggie falafel burgers! x2 - huge portion- were tasty, chips were crispy & amazing! Really good family pub. Busy so book in advance
Mixed review of this pub. Staff very friendly and helpful, food excellent but it was let down on the overnight experience. The room looked fab, very clean and neat but the mattress was very cheap and a fan that went on all night kept waking us up so we had a dreadful night's sleep. I did have a great shower the next morning though. I rang to complain but it wasn't handled very well. I'd go back for a meal but would never stay again.
I've driven past this pub many, many times & was delighted to discover it is a bit of a hidden gem. The interior was well presented but we elected to eat outside in the charming garden, so my impression was that it was large, with plenty of seating. The staff were polite & friendly. I do think the food was a little pricey c. £10 for a jacket potato, however the salad was delicious, so it wouldn't put me off returning. The toilets were clean & fresh. Alas, I wasn't paying that much attention to notice the accessibility, however the car park is tarmac not gravel, so hopefully that's a good start. There is capacity for a coach party, but please give them a chance & book ahead. Pay attention to road signs when joining the A303 eastbound. A solid four & a half stars, happily rounded up to five because I didn't come away with any negative feelings.
Over the past two years of working up the road in the sewage treatment yard I've never been in the pub.but I will. As I've seen many improvements of the outside starting to feel like a proper village pub. So soon I park my lorry up and walk down. Well done
On a very, very cold day the White Horse provided a warm, cosy and friendly place for a spot of lunch. It was a Wednesday lunchtime and very busy, but the two front of house staff managed the customers with efficiency, friendliness and a positive attitude. The only downside was a lack of fish and chips, but the food we did have scampi and ham & eggs was tasty and good value. There were two beers on handpump both were well kept and kept us longer than we had anticipated! All in all a good find, hopefully will be back.
Superb friendly staff, we went in as an unhooked party of 9 just after kitchen shut and they kept the kitchen open for us. Excellent food and service. Just what we needed after a busy afternoon karting. I’m sure we will be back very soon!
Me and the family were travelling down to Devon on Saturday, so we decided to stop off for lunch at the White Horse. We ordered 3 chicken sandwiches with chips I had Welsh Rarebit with a side order of chips . Alarm bells started to ring when the food arrived and I tasted the tomato sauce only to find out it was the cheap stuff you buy from cash and carry that resembles nothing like the Heinz ketchup. Then I tasted one of the fries and could tell the oil the they had fried it in hadn’t probably been changed since the beginning of the first lockdown. It literally made me gag. The toast on the the Welsh Rarebit was soggy and the chicken breast on the chicken sandwich had been deep fried in the same oil that the chips had been fried in. All this for £75. Walked back to the car feeling sick and like I had been robbed.
Excellent Excellent venue. Went for Sunday roast. Highly recommended. Staff could not do enough for us . Period Thatched building. Loads of history. Highly recommend a vist .
The food here was absolutely impeccable, we have recently moved to the area and thought we would give this place a spin for a Sunday lunch and the food didn't disappoint. My only grumble and it's extremely minor is the waitress who served us had loads of festival entry bracelets on and twice the 'tassles' of these bracelets dragged across food we were being served, I appreciate the wearing of these but having been to several festivals these are not hygienic. The food was amazing and all staff were extremely friendly.
