Had an appalling meal here during the bank holiday weekend. Booked a table ahead of time but when we arrived we stood for about 5 minutes being blanked by multiple members of staff who walked past with their heads down not making eye contact. We had to ask at the bar to be sat down and were eventually taken to our table. The place seemed dirty with stuff on the floor and tables not cleaned. The toilets were also dirty, some cubicles with no loo roll and no soap in one of the dispensers. The food menu was good and had plenty of options then we ordered on the app to save having to wait to get staff's attention again. 20 minutes later our drinks finally arrived. 50 minutes later from ordering, our food arrived can't understand why it took so long as the place was half empty and we weren't told there would be a significant wait for food. My Mac n cheese was a disappointment to say the least, a tiny child's size portion, the side salad was just leaves, no tomato, cucumber or dressing, the best bit was the garlic bread! I finished it in about 5 minutes, completely unsatisfied. My husband ordered the enchiladas and they were stone cold in the middle, not lukewarm but actually cold! We were horrified and took it back to staff to complain. 10-15 minutes later and he's still without a meal, by which point myself and my father in law had finished ours so we had to go and ask again for his meal to be replaced which it eventually was. Staff member marched out without a smile and plonked it on the table saying "they you are", no apology whatsoever. Again, it wasn't piping hot, only just warm. Couldn't wait to get out the place. I'm not one to complain but having spent the weekend with our terminally ill grandfather, all we wanted was a quick and easy dinner and we got anything but. No apology, no refund, no nothing. Judging by the other reviews, we are not the only ones to be let down by this place, the management and chefs ought to sort it out before they make someone ill. Will certainly not be coming back and will be encouraging others to avoid it!
really liked this place... great food and great offers 2 for £10.99 big portion sizes... definitely coming back been a few times now, still great 5 keep doing what you do
Pretty busy when I arrived with my partner for dinner. Staff seemed busy but still smiley and polite. Ordered drinks and was indecisive about which gin to have - Hollie was serving me and helped me pick! What a nice touch. Food was on offer, steak for £6 or something similar which is really good value. Will definitely be back - felt very welcome.
Was a bit disappointed that the Manager chose to chastise "Ryan" for something whilst mid serving me and I didn't get told that the £3.15 soft drinks weren't refillable, tad awkward, resulting in my drinks being slammed on the bar by a clearly embarrassed Ryan, who had been lovely to that point. Food was nice, delay wasn't long and portions were as you would expect. Would definitely go again if in Hull hoping the Manager sees this and acknowledges he perhaps could've waited until after serving a customer to speak to his staff about another issue
Long wait for food - told 45 minutes when I ordered but it was 75 - 90 minutes before it arrived. The chick-less sandwich was disappointing - consisted of meatless sausages on a bun and didn't taste particularly nice either. The staff were nice enough though.
Never again. First time food wasn't great. But thought we would try again. Gets in finds somewhere to site buys our drinks. Husband goes pays for food a few minutes later a young girl comes to say they have to refund money for food. They can't cook it something to do with staff. There happy to refund but will take 3 to 5 days to go back in bank. Obviously didn't offer for the drinks we had litrally just bought to be refunded. Shocking place. Personally would avoid.
First time ever having xmas dinner not at home, and won't be the last. From walking through the door to leaving the service was impeccable. Despite being quite busy we were attended to really well. The four course xmas dinner was absolutely delicious and served really hot, the waiting staff were attentive and professionally, thank you for an excellent day
This place is good if you are just going to grab a beer. HOWEVER, the food is absolutely horrendous. There are flies everywhere check the coffee machine and one day I had a terrible night vomiting, etc. after eating there. Sometimes it can be very busy, and there are many loud drunks. The staff is friendly, but you can see they are really tired and understaffed. As I said, if you want to go there for a drink then it’s fine, but forget about ordering food and they are not cheap for what they offer!!.
Booked a table online, turned up 9 hours later nobody aware of a reservation not a great start. Found a table after finally getting our drinks order correct, one staff member said we cant add a table to our table, another said we could only needed a extra two seats. To say the food was over cooked is a massive understatement and presented in such a way that nothing looked edible, although the chips where hot and tasty.
If I could give zero stars I would. We went for a quick bite to eat for our sons 3rd Birthday. The pub wasn't overly busy with just another 5 or 6 tables occupied. After waiting nearly 1hrfor the food to finally arrive there was only 3 of us so it wasn't like it was a big party we tucked into our meals. I had the Jamaican dish which was the speciality - to their credit this was very nice. However, my Wife had the chicken platter, she couldn't eat all 6 of the chicken wings so I had some of them too.... we then felt shocking on the night and was throwing up and on the toilet for the next day with food poisoning. We shall certainly never be going back to Whistling Goose again!
