Pure tourist trap. Took clear advantage of my daughter trying to shop for me. Sold her a terrible bottle of whisky and made her feel like they weren’t even trying to help when she was there. Basically just “you have this to spend, take this bottle”. Places like this should come with a rip off warning.
It was the display in the shop window that made us go in. The shop has a a very large selection of whiskeys, malt drinks and wines, cigars and accessories. The place is warm and inviting plus the background music is pretty cool. Staff extremely knowledgeable and very welcoming.
Started off talking to one person who seemed sincere. Nice conversation. Then a man came to the counter and took over. Started sampling out some of the nastiest stuff. He kept telling me that I wanted a sweeter whiskey when I said absolutely not. The whiskies he sampled were harsh but he kept giving pleasant descriptions. I don’t have well defined taste but he expected I didn’t have any. When I tried to get away just to browse alone, suddenly he tells me they’re closed. I’m glad I read these other reviews. I wasn’t even sure why I was left so angry, but I think it was justified. Trust yourself and don’t get swindled.
So glad we found this place! We had been to a few whisky shops in the area but couldn't quite find what we wanted. The prices are exactly the same as every whisky shop in Edinburgh. The man behind the counter was friendly and chatty. He recommended a whisky at the price we wanted and also showed us one we couldn't get as easily back home in Liverpool. He even allowed us to taste a drop so we knew what we were getting! We bought a lovely bottle of Highland Scotch and some glasses as well. I absolutely adore the tiny about 1" bottles they sell there as well.
Great customer service, lovely chap, was very happy to give us tasters of several different gins. Great selection of gins, reasonably priced, given the area. Purchased three bottles, from recommendation, and taste. Thank you, we will revisit, if in the area again.
Another chronically overpriced shop designed for the tourist to be trapped by. Staff have no interest in whisky enthusiasts, but will change their demeanour instantly if they think you’re an unsuspecting tourist.
The knowledgeable staff member here is what every business hopes to hire. He happily helped us select a great Scotch and a local Gin. We will be back next time!
The guy I spoke to was very knowledgeable and happily answered any questions I had. I ended up getting a bottle posted to me because it was cheaper than anywhere around where I live, even with the postage. The bottle was wrapped up in it's box and packaged really well.
Had the pleasure of purchasing from the shop on serval occasions. First class customer service and fast shipment. A great selection of fine malts. Will definitely use again.
Very overpriced - paid about £40 too much for a bottle of whisky. I understand that physical shops have to put a mark up on their products over online retailers but when you can buy another bottle of whisky for the price difference you just go away feeling robbed. Save your money, buy online or find a more honest retailer.
