First of all the positives it’s a fantastic location very close to the park. Very children friendly. my review is for both having stayed there for a week in the hotel and dined there with my child. Sadly, Green King have let this place go, this should be the flagship hotel and restaurant of their portfolio due to its location. The rooms are in desperate need of an upgrade. Also the fact that you cannot use cash in a bar or restaurant is ridiculous. The location is a high tourist area and tourists do not like to use credit cards for a purchase of a couple of drinks because of the overseas charges involved every time we use our cards. It may be convenient for people that live in the UK, but when you are so close to Windsor, you need to be aware that many of your customers are from the rest of the world. I would give the location the most stars I would give the quality of the rooms the least amount of stars. I thought the manager and the house keeping staff did an excellent job, not so much the bar staff and breakfast staff who spread very grumpy. if you don’t want to work in hospitality, and you don’t have the ability to keep a smile on your face regardless of what is happening you should seek employment in a different industry. Despite clearly being handicapped by a big corporation the manager clearly tries his best. Would I eat there again? Yes would I stay there again no.
Now I have been visiting this pub for over 20 years. The food menu has always been good BUT today was the worst meal out I have had for 5 years. My daughters choice was better. This pub used to serve excellent food so I do not know if there are issues that changed my original 5 star to 3.
Came here for Sunday Lunch and was super impressed with the friendliness of all the staff, our waitress Grace was outstanding and super helpful. The food was absolutely delicious; we both had the Roast Sirloin beef and were blown away. Thank you so much to all the staff for a wonderful Sunday lunch !
We dine her frequently mainly on Sundays as the roast are great. We’ve been using here for years and have always received a warm welcome from the wonderful young staff who are mainly students. They have a great input on what it takes to work within this industry and to provide a good service. In particular Grace & Callum are fantastic at making you feel welcomed as soon as you arrive. I highly recommend
Had a really nice evening at the Wheatsheaf Hotel on London Road in Virginia Water. I went for the Korean chicken strips and chips, and they were awesome. The chicken was super crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and the Korean spices gave it a great kick. The chips? Just how I like them - golden and crunchy. Also tried the chef’s board, which had a bunch of different cheeses and some fresh veggies. It was pretty cool to have a variety of cheeses to nibble on, and the veggies were a fresh touch. The place itself has a laid-back vibe, really cozy and just the kind of spot you’d want to hang out for a casual evening. Plus, the staff were friendly and on point.
Enjoyed a lovely Sunday roast this afternoon. The beef was a huge hit, fish and chips were beautifully fluffy, my favourite was definitely the sticky toffee pudding, also beautifully fluffy and huge! Staff were very friendly and the atmosphere was vibey. Food did take a while but what do you expect on a busy Sunday!Service: 5/5
Been here a couple times and always rate the food here, it's hot, tasty and there's plenty of it. We had a young waitress serve us who was in training and she was very friendly and attentive and wish her the best of luck, Sunday service is always in at the deep end for new staff and she coped very well. Can't wait to enjoy another delicious meal here again soon!
If you want a friendly welcome and a clean pub don’t bother coming here. It used to be lovely but now it’s just awful. The manager Dorian is nothing but rude. The rest of the staff who are young and lack personality makes this place a bad end to a great walk around Virginia Water with the dog. There were tables not cleared and food all over the floor. Only one ladies toilet cubicle working and for such a large pub this meant you had to queue. We had a bowl of cheesy chips but were lacking in cheese. Asked one of the staff if we could sit in a certain area with a dog and you’d have thought I had asked if I could eat her right arm. Then I realised she barely spoke English. Would definitely NOT recommend stepping foot inside this pub. I would recommend going 2 minutes down the road to the next one or better still go to the petrol station opposite.
Not impressed in the slightest with this venue. Decided to stay overnight in the locality to attend a very special function early the following day. Chose The Wheatsheaf since it was a reputable Chef and Brewer chain, close to the function venue. Arrived at what looked like a shabby diner on the side of the road. Booked in - chap on reception was pleasant. We planned to check out around 8-8.30 am the next morning - no staff around other than a cleaner who went to look for someone when a member of staff eventually turned up - no apology for keeping us waiting. We were in a hurry by this time and decided to not mention the issues with the room for fear of delay. Hence this review. Was expecting better service given the hotel/pub chain and location. Rooms: Retired to the room for the night and it became rather warm and we couldn't find a thermostat to turn down the temperature. Disturbed nights sleep - the room remained very warm and rather claustrophobic. The windows could only be opened slightly and we discovered what looked like generators outside which were noisy. Food & drinks: Had a meal in the restaurant later in the evening - service was slow despite very few diners.
Welcomed by a very nice front of house, taken to our table and provided with all the allergen details. We had the festive menu and the prawns to start were lovely but this was where it all went downhill. Roast turkey for main was terrible, roast potatoes tasted days old, turkey seemed like it was out of a packet and the rest of the dish was like something from school. We politely spoke to the waiter who was very sarcastic with our feedback and didn’t believe our comments. Great start, horrible ending will most likely stick to the drinks in there!
