7 of us. 3 ordered coffee, 4 ordered milksake. Coffees came, waited 30 minutes for wrong milkshakes so had more coffees whilst waiting. Total shambles when came..only 2 wrong ones and then 3 more came. Terrible service and disorder. Never go on a Sunday again

Despite the mixed reviews that West One has received, both on line and also by word of mouth, I have still frequented West One over the last year or so simply because the vegetarian curry is so good. I am a vegetarian. The vegetarian curry was not available. I have tried other veggie options there in the past but 1) There are not many. 2) They are a bit bland I then noticed that there was a vegetarian breakfast comprising of fried eggs, beans, hash browns and mushrooms. I therefore requested it. The polite and extremely efficient waitress said she'd best ask the chef if it was OK and added that she could see no reason why not. The tattooed "Chef" appeared and said a resounding NO! Breakfast finished at 12 and he'd put all the breakfast food "away". He offered me a goats cheese salad... Surely you can get a couple of eggs, mushrooms and beans back out from where they'd been put away? No. Out of the question. He could do a goats cheese salad though. It is like a scene from Fawlty Towers. And it was at this point that I lost my patience. The restaurant was EMPTY. Can he not simply fry a couple of eggs, mushrooms and beans? Apparently not. And this man has a bad attitude. I inform him that West One is ranked badly on Trip advisor and he replies "So it's all my fault is it?". Are you the "Chef"? In which case yes, it is possibly your fault. He tells me to get out. Nice. Well I certainly wasn't staying anyway. He's a disgrace to his employees and I felt so badly for the polite young barmaid and barman who had served me earlier. I left and went to the French Hen not far away. They only had two vegetarian options and I told the waitress about what had happened down the road and how inflexible the cook was. She said that although it wasn't on the menu their chef could make a vegetarian paella. I gladly accepted and I have you say it was superb. And that is the difference between a genuine chef and an cook. And the difference between a proper restaurant and a cafe with employee who doesn't give a damn. The cook at West One couldn't even be bothered to fry eggs despite his "cafe" being empty. The genuine Chef at a genuine restaurant had the ability and courtesy to create a lovely meal for me, and all of his customers I should expect. He is a credit to The French Hen. West One is a lovely bar. With the exception of the cook It's staff are friendly, efficient and attentive. There was a famous Western called "How the West was won". How about a sequel set in Hagley called "How the West One was lost". A saloon bar has employed a cowboy cook who won't fry an egg after dawn yet apart from that, the bar is great. Its a case of the good, the bad and the eggly. And unless the cook changes his ways future travelers will ride past the boarded up building into the sunset never to return...

Nice staff, new menu bland and boring, food cooked poorly on Wednesday. To add insult to injury cost £25.00 to park in road for 90 minutes. Not a welcoming Town!
