Fund-raising body supporting the work of Warwickshire Record Office, promoting historical records and holding social events.
Warwickshire County Record Office was established in 1933. Its aim is to collect, preserve and make available records relating to the county of Warwickshire. The documents, including accounts, deeds, correspondence, maps and photographs, are wide ranging, dating from the early 12th to the 21st centuries.
In 1988, a small group of Record Office users founded the Friends of the Warwickshire County Record Office. It was at the time when the Record Office was raising money to buy the 16th century account book of Ralph Sheldon. Our aim is to support and promote the Record Office and to raise money for special purchases. Since that time, membership has grown and charitable status has been granted.
The Friends have now raised over £42,000. Our money assists with purchases of archives and Record Office equipment that might otherwise be impossible to acquire within the strictures of the Record Office's budget.
