It has had a nice refurbishment and has a good independent coffee shop. There is a free bus to the town centre. Trains are ok but would be better if they were more frequent

Wakefield Kirkgate was really rundown five years ago. Metro and Network Rail have made an excellent job of getting the station in order. The improvements wanted need to be stacked for a while to allow cash and resources to build. Fare increases, some of it due the government wanting to reduce subsidies which could cause passengers to revolt and vote with their feet, if too many do that then disaster could happen again.

Why no toilets other than those punitively policed by the coffee shop. I work with a disabled man who was confronted with this baffling state of affairs upon arrival -with (I imagine) predictable consequences...
