Not enough staff on the self checkout. The one assistant was on the cash desk with a queue leaving myself and at least two other customers hanging around like spare ones waiting to be seen. The problem exacerbated by the poorly applied reduced barcodes not working and items going through at the wrong price.
Hitchin is a lovely town and this Waitrose is big enough to serve all stock without skipping essentials or extra requirements like vegan vegetarian food and household items. Staff are ultra friendly and the ship is very well stocked and cleaned
I had a bad experience with the staff in this store. I asked for help and was just told the chicken is over there , I couldn’t find what I needed because i was denied assistance. I was then followed by security until I paid at the till.nnI won’t be coming back here any time soon until they start training their staff better. The security as well was really intrusive, kept poking his head around the aisle the rice aisle and then making a point to walk past me multiple times and stand next to me while I was queuing for the self service tills. I was only in the store for 5 mins max. Very disappointed and not what I expect of a Waitrose. Made to feel like a theif and denied proper assistance.
My wife and I have been regular customers since the store opened in 2005. Called in on Saturday 21st and 23rd Dec for a significant spend on produce. Disappointed that the complimentary coffee machine were not open. Is this an example of penny pinching or for the convenience of staff rather then pleasing the customer.
I am a regular waitrose shopper and there is always a very good selection of food from fresh fish to very tempting wines, however this store is in need of refurbishment, it feels dated and updating is needed when compared to other multichain foodstores.
