The flats look fairly decent on the surface but have lots of major issues. I stayed in block 2 and have had leaks through my window, wind whaling through under the door and the place is infested with silverfish. I have had silverfish in my laundy basket, bedroom bin and even in my bed! I'm a very clean student but they told me I should clean more often, despite hoovering my room every day. The staff are nice though and the social spaces have been done up well, I like the cinema room. However, the constant emails demanding access to your room are beyond anything I've experienced with other private student halls and considering you are paying a very high price for the accommodation I often felt unnecessarily disturbed. For example demanding in capital letters that we should remove all bedding for a mattress inspection only halfway through the tenancy agreement in March, otherwise we could be fined, is not something I've ever experienced in my prior 3 years of student accommodation. Has potential to be a good place but just charging far too much for the standard of flats on offer and you don't feel like they respect your privacy.
I’ve been at this accommodation since September 2023, and I’ve already rebooked to stay for 2024/2025. The reasons are simple: 1- Customer service is outstanding Narmeen, Sana, Sam, Caroline, Kaide I’m looking at you! 2- Social spaces are fantastic! 3- Close to bus links and local shops. 4- Regular events that cater to people of all different backgrounds. All I’ll say is for the price you’re paying and the servuces that you get in return, you’d be delusional to think you’d find another accom that comes close to VP. Just my two cents though .
I would not recommend staying here. I stayed over the summer last year and had a poor experience. Block 2 was very run down and the bathroom was rotting, with lots of silverfish. In the block there was a student that was a heroin drug addict and was allowed to live here for the remainder of his tenancy. In the flat above someone had their macbook stolen by him and the police were regularly called searching for him. On the last night in the flat I woke up to someone in the kitchen, he had broken into my flat and stolen food out of my kitchen. I was asleep at the time and woke up to a middle age man coming out of the kitchen with a strong smell of cannabis and alcohol. He had also broken into the flat opposite. The girl in the flat opposite was also alone in the flat and we were both in tears. I had to call the police and open a claim for theft and trespassing. Hello Student blamed this on us saying its our responsibility to lock our doors, stating they had a duty of care to look after him. Strange our duty of care was never considered or the 100s of other students that live in Victoria Point. This man was connecting via bluetooth to students TV's playing pornography between old men and young children. I never received a response from the head office about the experience, but I did receive a response from Hello Student Victoria Point demanding payments for my parking permit which I received over £200 in car fines for in addition to blaming me for not locking my door despite living in a supposed secure block that requires a fob access. I lost my key on the premises and never found it which makes me wonder whether he had access to the flat. Please do not stay here - I only stayed for 10 weeks and felt incredibly unsafe, as did the other girls living here. Incredibly poor from Hello Student, I could not imagine being an 18 year old student living here having just come to university and experiencing this.
Do not stay here. I stayed here for a few months last year and it is incredible how poorly maintained the flats are. There was a fire in our kitchen and had I not smelt it I wouldn’t have known as the fire alarms didn’t go off this wasn’t fixed during my time there even though staff were notified. The hot water was very limited and there’d be enough to either do the dishes or have a shower around every 3 hours. There was mould in my room that kept growing also wasn’t sorted despite notifying staff. The kitchen which had no windows and a very poor fan would smell very badly due to poor ventilation. The single glazing meant that I’d wake up during the winter months with big puddles on my windowsill. I stayed here for around 4 months before dropping out although I hadn’t been there I was still being charged for rent, gas and electric for the whole year even after returning my key. By far the worst place I’ve ever stayed and I hope noone else has to endure this awful accommodation.
Please please please..do not stay here. The worst place i have ever lived in during my years of university. At the start of the year- the ceiling of my roof constantly leaked and went all over my belongings such as my TV etcc.. Not one penny of compensation was provided. Alongside this, staff are incompetent as… No clue how to deal with things, no clue how to speak with people in a respectful manner.. absolutely disrespectful. Alongside this, no understanding/care of the covid 19 situation. wouldn’t ever ever choose to live here again, looks good on the outside but the worst experience i have ever had with an accommodation provider. If i could rate it 0 i would.
I want to provide a detailed review for those who are considering this accommodation as I was put off myself by the bad reviews. I initially wanted a short term contract for three months and I later extended it until the end of the academic year. The team were excellent at sorting this out for me. There were several parties hosted by the team throughout my stay, which was very welcoming. The team were also very good at moving students to other flats if necessary. The rooms are bright, airy and dry but they are not sound proof. If someone sneezed in the room next to yours, you would hear it. When I first arrived, my room was being used as storage by another flatmate. My flatmates weren't aware I was moving in. I later found out that 'unannounced' flatmates were common. There were a lot of maintenance problems with the flat. Most were sorted very quickly same day. However, some remained throughout the whole tenancy despite reporting them several times. There were significantly more maintenance issues in these halls compared with any others I've stayed in. It became very tiresome in the end. I felt like I was always waiting for the next problem. The major criticism I have is with a breach of privacy whilst living there. I sent a private email to the team concerning my flatmate. I was later confronted by my flatmate for sending the email and she could specify the details in it. I had told NO ONE I had sent the email. It was clear a member of staff had shown her the private email. This was something I was very upset about. I would have put 3/5 stars but Hello Student handled Covid 19 extremely well. We were all offered an early termination and refund, which is very reasonable. I would recommend these halls, especially to social students, but not above the university run student halls.
Had a smooth stay here during my time in Manchester. Friendly staff, clean and well maintained property. Love the brand new design. Had a comfortable stay. Conveniently located near grocery stores, restaurants and hospitals. I had an issue paying my rent for the last quarter and they were understanding and accomodated to break down the payment into smaller installments. Would highly recommend
The management team at Manchester hello student are very rude, ignorant and obnoxious. I would not recommend this student accommodation, room checks randomly, staff aren’t always available to give you your deliveries and parcels which means you have to wait. Prices on room for what you get is just outrageous, simply trying to be Vita but could never compare. Do Not Stay Here!!!
The rooms are very modern and bright. The kitchen is fitted with oven, microwave, dishwasher, fridge and freezer! But it is the staff at the reception that makes the accommodation great. Somehow they remember your name, and are always very friendly and welcoming. I had a problem with my room, and the staff went above and beyond to make me feel comfortable.
The architecture gives me illness, such a shame as it is next to the beautiful Victorian Baths.
