It's more for the quiet type of student. Its a lovely place. Close to all transport for Manchester. You could walk there in 20 minutes. Its really nice to chill out and get your head into your future..
Lived here 2022-2023. It was honestly great. It's the place to be if you want quiet and serenity. The accom is uni maintained so cleaned twice every week which is great! My flatmates were amazing so I didn't have to deal with a lot. It can get a lil sketchy after dark due to dimmer lights. I wish it had lifts like most other accom. It is a nice place to stay at.
I lived here 2017-18, it was a great experience as I did enjoy quiet living. There are some parties over weekends in communal areas over weekends. But most parties happen at fallowfield 10-15 min walk away. It was a plus for me, for I can go to parties when I feel like, while not be disturbed when I need a quiet environment to work. It is about 15-20 walk to the "Tin Can", i.e. university place. It's takes about the same amount of time if you take the bus, as you have to wait sometimes. There are bicycles sheds and cycling is very easy, 7-12 minutes to the Tin Can. There is a piano that you can play at a chapel at St Anselm's across the street, you have to request for a key, but it's great acoustics there in the Chapel. Overall, great environment, not too much party, okay location.
Accomodation is old fashioned and feels a little bit like a prison. The amenities are okay and the location is quiet and relatively safe compared to Fallowfield. The people living here are really nice. The resident's association organizes nice events. Saint Anselm's bar on the opposite of the road is certainly one of the places to be as poor student. Very cheap pints and shots and a very good vibe during the bigger events. Welcome week here is definitely a good time to make lasting friends.
Lived here in my first year of university 2019-20. I got lucky and had a good flat in burgess block but not everyone had the same experience and some begged to move out. If you want the 'uni experience' i dont recommend this accommodation, just go to fallowfield it isnt as far as it looks from the uni. Pros- close enough to both unis to walk, it is in a nice area and very quite, burgess block has a communal area where you can play pool and watch movies or pre etc Cons- The wifi is awful, very old fashioned not worth £145 per week, rooms are small, regular noise complaints which can result in fines, not very social compared to fallowfield accommodation, not many houseparties
Dated, functional student accommodation
