I live in here as an exchange student. It’s a really lovely place with a bar and food hall, I made a lot of friends thanks to them. It relieves my anxiety and loneliness to a great extent. A walking distance to Uni and Curry Mile makes it a very comfortable place to live. I love hulme hall!
Quite old. The rooms are tiny. The mattress is in bad shape that we had to by a top, not to feel the springs. The shower is so tiny thar you can knock your arms around.
Some of the rooms are clean and spacious with ample storage space. I personally don’t think not having a sink in your room is not a big deal. The only catch of this hall is having to share shower and bathroom facilities with anyone being able to use these facilities rather than gender segregation. However, it is better than other shared facility university of Manchester halls as the toilet and bathroom locks giving ample space to get changed. The showers itself are not adjustable so you have to shower under a fixed position. I’m not sure about temperature and pressure of the showers as I haven’t used them. You have to also walk out from your bedroom in the night etc to use the bathroom facilities but they were clean. The bathrooms didn’t smell and it was arguably better than an en-suite in some other university accommodation halls because the showers have doors and a dedicated space to get changed with privacy and security. The rooms are really good in terms of storage and the desks. Hulme hall is a really good location for the university it is really close by to shops like Tesco, Lidl and many bus routes into university; town; the airport, the big ASDA and exploring greater Manchester. The kitchens are modern and clean. There is a little library/study space which is also clean and tidy. The shared facilities and bedrooms here are much better and more secure than those in Whitworth hall.
Hulme -Greenwood Hall... Happy with the location and accommodations, seems to provide all the comforts college students need. I wanted to post pics because when we were researching halls I could not find any and the ones I found I was never sure it they were accurate. Hopes this helps someone when they are considering different accommodations.
Had a good year at this hall, very friendly and welcoming place. Tucked away in a quiet green area that's also really close to Curry Mile & Uni if you need. Food is mediocre, however its fine. If you're fussy could be an issue. But in general expect to eat out / cook a bit on top
Ok, the rooms really aren't too bad. they are small but tidy with a reasonably sized desk and basin. However, the catering is beyond unacceptable. the staff in the hall are rude and very unapproachable except from a few of the younger staff members. The food served is shocking, often undercooked or burned. The vegan/vegetarian options are limited and often consist of a pasta dish so are not substantial meals. I do not recommend this hall because whilst the rooms are nice enough, the £165 a week to cover the cost of the atrocious food is an absolute joke. Shared bathrooms within this hall are often unideal due to the unsanitary conditions they are kept in. Out of all the halls, I highly suggest going for one that is self-catered, preferably en-suite if possible. Don't waste your time here. Feel free to browse some of my photos included in the review.
Good communal atmosphere especially the bar area and dining room. Food is decent and the staff are friendly. Window locks are insufficient and although campus security are excellent, the university management does not take security seriously enough. This was as a result of a theft-related incident that occurred during my time here, the same occurred to a previous tenant. The university did nothing to improve security following incident including perimeter fencing, CCTV and window locks.
I had a good year here. The room was reasonably sized and the internet connection both wi-fi and ethernet was great. Bathrooms and kitchens were mostly clean. And this is a silentl hall so if you want to study this place is great. The pup, table tennis room and the football field os pretty useful as well. The food wasn't that good but the fact that it exists is still a plus.
Burkhardt house: Advantages: Kinda good for the price Urgent Repairs are fixed in two at most but for less urgent repairs like fridge stops working it can take two weeks Pretty close to all services you will ever need except entertainment outside hall Staff are very nice Disadvantages: The rooms are not very sound proof, you can hear whatever the people on your side or on top are doing If you study in North campus it's gonna be a pain to get to sackville and renolds All and all its a good place to live in if you don't mind a little discomfort from noise and having to cook for yourself. Just remember to ask about other services around hulme hall like game room , food in ramadan
Great accommodation for first year students. Walking distance from the uni. However, the furniture in the Christie building is a bit old. Everything is very clean. And the food in the catering facilities is really good.
