It’s the headquarters of the city council where it held in the city center and well known as the place where people celebrate and gather to protest and chill sometimes when the sun is up. So many statues and monuments for Robert Burns, James Watt, Sir Robert Peel and Sir Waiter Scott. Spectacular and memorable place to visit and spend some good time in the site
Not the usual hustle and bustle of the Christmas Markets with all the ongoing Covid situation. But was nice to take the kids, they seemed to enjoy themselves and it was pretty impressive when it was lit up at night time. Hopefully next year will bring back the markets and the fair ground attractions for the children
Not bad but not too much for tourist, though there isn’t much to do but looking at the statues and the beautiful building around the square makes it a worthwhile place to rest. There are numerous monuments in the square to some of the great statesmen associated with the town so if you are a history buff then this place should be on your lists
A beautiful, yet classic tourist area of Glasgow City. Blessed with gorgeous autumnal weather this particular day, the George Square was stunning - buzzing with "the people who make Glasgow". Situated amongst the stately architecture of City Hall, was a lovely open garden area marked with notable statues of honoured historical people. The bars and restaurant scene is as vast as this underrated great city - well worth a visit whilst in splendid Scotland. Restrooms: Public toilets are situated several hundred yards away on nearby parallel main streets off the shopping/business district. Usual publicly available fast-food and coffee shops exist for no-quibble toilet facilities. Picnic area: Adequate bench seating and grass areas to simply enjoy, or even have a picnic!
We tagged along to a walking tour with the wonderful Ian from walking tours, and the experience went from ‘pretty nice’ to ‘Wow!’. Learned so much about the history and development of Glasgow through the descriptions and renditions of history via the statues in the square. We then continued on for a while to learn more about surrounding buildings and historical figures. Get a guide, download a walking tour, or just a little brochure if you can and the experience will be much more than just a nice square!
It's an iconic square and monument of Europe and UK, in the city of Glasgow. This is my first time hear and I'm sad, when we read about this city in hour history books it's all about the industrial revolution of the modern world, but now I see a remnants of bygone era of once one of the most important city of the world.
In winter, especially holiday time, this place is very impressive and so beautifully decorated with Christmas lights, enlarged in size Christmas objects eg walk in Xmas tree bulb, beautiful. I will post more updated photos of summer view later.
A very lovely historic place. People and council must make sure the safety and care of these place. Everyone must be considerate about keep the places clean
When the sun is shining it's a nice place to sit and have some lunch. Has a few monuments of famous people like Robert Burns and Sir Walter Scott. Some lovely old buildings surround the square. If your fortunate you may see a movie being filmed here. Recently The Flash, Batgirl and the latest Indiana Jones movie have been filmed here.
George Square is a serene place to visit on a normal day but with the Christmas fair currently ongoing, it not made me want to visit but also want to remain there. The rides are all fun and exciting.
