A wonderful place to stay. The house and rooms are just beautiful. Amanda the hostess is very welcoming and friendly. The rooms are spacious with large beds, chairs and a sofa, beautifully decorated with antiques, and great views over the countryside. The bathrooms have the old fittings and are very lovely. The breakfast selection is good and Amanda cooks to your request from the menu. Our favourites were the pancakes and bacon, and the smoked salmon scrambled egg. The gardens are very large, plenty of space to go for a walk round. There is a good sized outdoor pool. The road connections here are good, so you can get to Canterbury, Margate, Sissinghurst etc. within about 1hr. For shopping, visit the Ashford Designer Outlet.
What a first class operation. Lovely house, quiet spot, incredibly comfortable rooms, terrific breakfast. We went with daughter and spouse and shared house with an agreeable older couple, so no hustle and bustle. Would recommend without hesitation. 5 minutes from Leeds Castle. Decent food nearby. Amanda, who probably walks 100 miles/week, undersold the difficulty of the hikes, but we got over that.
We have stayed at Thurnham Keep on several occasions. It is a charming place to stay when exploring the Kent region. On our second visit, we felt like we were going "home" and the welcome was warm and friendly. The house is amazing and the grounds are stunning. We are in the planning stages of another trip to the UK and Thurnham Keep will be our base of operations for the Kent Area. Dover Castle, Canterbury, Leeds Castle, and many other amazing sites are just minutes away. The hosts are amazing!
This is an amazing country house hidden away in Thurnham. However the views from the grounds are open and spectacular. Amanda was very welcoming and took the time to go over the history of the building in good detail. She also provided us with tea and chocolate cake! The snooker room was very cool and had all the equipment. The house and grounds are kept in immaculate condition. What are you waiting for?!?
Oh dear...so disappointing! We booked this venue as somewhere for my bride to be to stay before the wedding. The venue was stunning but the overall hosts where terrible. Day 1: before the wedding. My bride was very upset and our mothers decided to pack their bags ready to leave even though we had booked out the whole place. The host was unwelcoming and moaning about the fact my bride and her family where there saying it is her home and we should respect that. She even went to the extent of saying her her insurance doesn't cover more than 6 people so any visitors can't come up to help my bride get ready the day before. Day 2: the wedding. Our hosts decided to moan that there was too many people around and even though we had hired an additional room on top of the others people were not welcomed friendly and felt in the way. Our cars arrived and the drivers from Kent Wedding Cars were amazing. However, they were greeted by our host whole moaned that she didn't want them there and it is all too intrusive. They explained to our mothers how awkward it was being there. Day 3: Luckily after staying on our wedding night we disappeared the whole day. However, when we arrived back after being chased by the hosts dog. We were welcome by a nice clean room. Ready to sleep we unfortunately were kept awake by the hosts TV which must have had the bass turned up as it drummed into our room being very irritating. Day 4: Leaving. Thank god! We went down to be greeted by a film crew banging and crashing through rooms. When we tried to sit down for breakfast we had around 20 people remember insurance max of 6 people moving furniture and equipment which didn't make us feel relaxed. When trying to remove our belongings to the car we had to run an obstacle course of wires, people and equipment. Only to find out car blocked in by around 10/15 cars and our 2 wedding cars were an issue when we had hired the entire venue? relaxing definitely not. Returning ... NO!
Stunning. Just unutterably perfect. The house and gardens are kept in immaculate condition, and the guest rooms have wonderful views over the gardens and the rolling hills of the North Downs. Amanda, the owner and hostess, spends so much time making the guests feel welcome without being intrusive, and personally prepares lovely breakfasts to order, including home-made honey and jam. The tennis court, swimming pool, snooker table and croquet pitch are all available for guests to use, and there are lovely walks to be had around the nearby hills. And if you're so inclined, Molly and Milly, the resident labrador and labradoodle, will be only too happy to guide guests around the local countryside!
A beautiful house and gardens in the heart of the North Downs. Excellent food and a warm friendly welcome from the owners. We had a long relaxing weekend in April 2018 and will be going back for another visit. A good selection of excellent pubs and restaurants are just a short taxi ride.
Stayed for a mini honeymoon treat. Absolutely beautiful!! Lovely building, extremely clean and the breakfasts are first class. Very friendly owners. A joy to stay in this peaceful, relaxing and beautiful place. Certainly a luxurious stay. Will be back for our first anniversary!!
Had a wonderful stay in the Leeds Room over Easter - so luxurious, and very friendly hosts. Excellent walks along the North Downs and a cosy, beamed pub nearby for dinner. Can’t wait to come back.
I have only been to this place ones but it was more than I expected. The guest rooms have an amazing view over the garden, food is fresh and tasty. Also there is much entertainment around the house that you can take advantage of
