Nice atmosphere, lovely staff and very good room. Sadly, not as much choice on the menu on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday night so, very few dishes without cheese in them? The Irish coffee that myself and my daughter had after the meal was nothing like anything I'd ever tasted and certainly not proper Irish coffee and served in a very odd glass and with no sugar offered with it. However, the Ales, lagers and wines served are excellent. An enjoyable one night stay though but, the menu just wasn't for me...
We were staying at the Black Horse Inn on our way to Devon, travelling from the Eu. It was perfect for one night. The room very spacious and clean. The food and drinks in the Inn were excellent as well as the atmosphere. You can also charge your EV here, very handy. I can imagine staying longer next time because of the beautiful countryside around it.
Firstly I should say the staff I met were very pleasant. We didn't eat in the restaurant , just had breakfast. The rooms are OK- a little tired and the towels could do with renewal. I guess as you can take dogs , the rooms are of a more practical cabin type with easy clean floors. The beds are very comfy. The fan in the bathroom was very noisy and a little disturbing in the night . The TV in my daughters room was on a wall that nobody could see from the main bed ...and it was very small - not sure why you'd put a family in room with bunk beds which they didn't need, and then add their 2 travel cots that they'd requested when my room would have been a lot better choice . Also £40 for 2 nights of travel cot hire seems extremely expensive to me ! This was also not obvious as a charge when she booked... Breakfast opens at 8am on a Sunday, and as we needed an early start, we got there for that time. The waitress was very sweet, but breakfast was disappointing. The toaster "wasn't warmed up" so we had to wait awhile for that, but then my daughters pot of tea arrived stone cold ! My grandsons "hot chocolate " was like a watery liquid too. No pastries or similar at the breakfast selection either, which is OK, but would have been nice , but the fried bread was good ! All in all , the location and pub itself are nice, but overall it was a bit disappointing. Good parking facilities.
As a dog owner, this pub near Maidstone was a delight. Friendly staff welcomed us warmly, and our furry friend felt right at home. Delicious food, hot showers with good pressure, and even charging stations for electric cars made our stay memorable. Highly recommended for a cozy retreat with your canine companion.Rooms: 4/5
A lovely rural country pub! We went there for lunch with friends and the pub feels very homely. The staff were great and very welcoming when we walked in. We had a drink whilst waiting for our friends to arrive in the beautiful maintained period interior. The atmosphere was very relaxed and this continued throughout the afternoon. We ordered starters calamari, goats cheese and risotto and everybody loved them. I must point out the tartar sauce that accompanied the calamari which was the best I've every had, great balance between tangy and creamy. For mains we all had steak fillet and ribeye and again the food was great. Chips and onion rings were amazing not that there was anything wrong with the steak. We eventually ended the meal with dessert treacle, sticky toffee and apple crumble and the standards did not drop there either. The banquet lasted over 4 hours and it seemed thar we had only been there for an hour. The staff were attentive at just the right level, sensing when you needed another drink, when to get the next course, etc. They were always very professional and courteous. When we did leave we were all remarking what a lovely relaxed afternoon it was and that we would definitely be going back!
Nice rooms, very clean, friendly stuff, if you are a pilgrim you can stump your passport. The food is excellent, we had to wait awhile as it was very busy but the food was worth it. Nice breakfast as well.Rooms: 5/5
Been here a few times now it's always good. We went for mother's day Sunday roast and the service was impeccable. They even did a free gin for mums! Will definitely be going back again in the future. Plenty of parking just keep following the signs if you can't get in the two main car parks.
I had never been here before and I was taken here for my birthday It is in the middle of nowhere but obviously very popular as we went on a Monday evening and it was busy The food was excellent It's decor is old worldly and fairly dark inside but there are lovely views over the countryside A great place to go and sit outside on a warm summer's day
If someone said take me to a proper English Pub I would take them here! Lovely old pub atmosphere with dried hops hanging from the ceiling and a log fire. Friendly staff, excellent food/ales and nice simple accommodation in the adjacent buildings. Also some good walking around with fantastic views from the North downsRooms: 4/5
Me and my wife had a evening meal and breakfast. We stayed for one night in a barn lodge. The room , meals and services were fantastic. Wonderful pub and in a lovely location The host John was very friendly and welcoming.
