Rented long wheel base van at very short notice. Receptionist and owner Phil very accommodating and helpful. Two year old van in good condition, clean and low mileage. Second time I’ve used Thornbury Van Hire, they offer competitive prices and would definitely recommend
Avoid! Returned the van at the time required and parked on the owners land. Took pictures and video for my own records to prove there was no damage to the van when it was returned. I'd heard of people being charged for damage that they hadn't caused so wanted evidence the van was fine when off hired. The van was checked by the owner 3 hours after the end of my hire period and I was charged £72 for a chipped windscreen. I've sent an email with photos and video showing that there was no damage to the van these include the number plate of the van, the owners photo of the damaged van do not, so could be any van. I got no response. I then phoned and was told the owner was not there but would get back to me. That was two weeks ago and I've heard nothing. I can't challenge the payment as it's pre-authorised when you setup the rental agreement. All I hope is this puts other people off using this company so that they don't get scammed too.

Stay away at all cost total thieves. Cancelled within an hour of booking and refused a refund had to go to legal channels to get money back. Now they are trying to use a collection agency to get money again. Dreadful company as other customers have said will do anything to steal a penny. Must be struggling

I recently had the pleasure of hire a large high top van from Thornbury Van Hire. The booking of the van in the first instance was easy and the email reply service was second to none. All interactions with staff were professional and courteous and could not do enough to help me. This is certainly a company i will be using again. This is a good example of where a local company triumphed over the national ones. Julie in the office is certainly happy to help.
We used Thornbury self drive hire for two days, for the purpose of moving house, towards the end of June. I would highly recommend the company - the lady who we dealt with was very helpful and happy to explain how the process worked as we hadn’t hired a van before. A good selection of vans to choose from and at a fair price. We will be using the company again, if we decide to move again the in the future! Thanks, Ben
I had a fantastic experience with Phil. I came from Glasgow to purchase my van. I have no mechanical experience and I felt safe to make the purchase. Phil exceeded my expectations and fulfilled my needs. Coming from 9 years car sales experience myself, this is usually unheard of. Phil was extremely helpful with my lease van. He ordered the exact van I wanted and cleared the finance off of my previous van. Can not fault the service which Phil provided from beginning to end. I would definitely recommend Phil and use him again in the future.
I've used them twice now and both times worked out well. They have now gone all contactless: you can book all online, including sending in a picture of your licence which only needs to be the front side of the card, and signing the contract with your mouse, collect the keys from a key safe then return them in the drop chute. It didn't say how much any excess miles were on the contract but they say that's now fixed. I had to ring up to pay as it seems they do not ring you back for a while don't use the chat function if that comes up, as that goes to the software supplier!. They leave the vehicle 72 hours before cleaning it etc. The long wheel base Peugot van I had was in good condition. It took me a while to work out you needed to push the + lever, after the cruise control is selected, to engage it.
