Had a pleasant meal here while staying locally and looking for somewhere to eat a reasonably priced early evening meal. The food was plentiful and tasty, service good and staff friendly. The pub's rear garden is quite spacious with tables to seat a fair number of customers, although it could probably do with a makeover. The pub appears to be popular with locals and this gave it a lively atmosphere. If you need to take your car there is plenty of room in the car park and if using public transport there is a bus stop right outside.
Fantastic Abbot ....and there's lager too! Large beer garden to the rear with impressive view of the church. Very comfortable garden rooms for cooler evenings. Good service. Lovely food too.
Dropped in on a wet and miserable Monday evening. On first sight it appeared a bit run down, however, it was clean and tidy. Landlord was very welcoming. My wife and I chose dishes off the "specials" board. The menus were in a tatty condition and menu options are basic. We ordered cottage pie which was homemade and very nice, as good as my own. It came with with veg and gravy. I noticed a ramp by the front door to aid access. Very large car park, with customary pot holes. Not a place for a special night/meal but we'd happily drop in again. Friendly, cosy and nice food. Sadly it's a very hard time for public houses especially "freehouses". Not confirmed but on reflection I don't recall Greene King being advertised everywhere.
Welcoming, cosy pub. delicious home cook food
Visited with my partner for dinner. I chose an item from the specials menu and my partner had a burger. Thoroughly enjoyed the food, the service is great and the owner is very chatty and friendly. Shall return again soon.
Called in for lunch with my mum on a Thursday, not too crowded so no trouble getting a table. Friendly service from the staff and only a short wait for our food to arrive. I had the butternut squash tart and chips which was great - the pastry was especially good. Nice pint of Abbot. Mum had the pork belly with new potatoes, also good but she did need to request a steak knife to get to the bottom of it! The meat was really tender though and she enjoyed it. Not mum's first time there and I'd certainly make a return visit too.
Recently relocated in the Bury St Edmunds area, what a friendly wholesome pub, great staff, ready with a smile...have a feeling this will become our local...thanks for making us feel welcomed
I've had a lunch and a dinner here in the last couple of weeks and both times were fantastic. Great food and the service was excellent, will definitely be going back.
A lovely Sunday lunch in a pleasant village pub. The food was good honest fayre and reasonably priced. Service was very good by friendly staff. Booking is essential.
My daughter and friend popped in to play a game of pool. Asked the proprietor if she could have some change. He responded with are you buying a drink. She said no but would if it was a problem she would asked for some change with said drink. He was very rude and questioned her friends age who was not drinking. Then said to him what are you starring at! No wonder this place is empty. Manners do not cost anything! As a family who live in the village we will not be using the Woolpack again!
