A most enjoyable stay at the Old Cannon Brewery. The room was cosy and comfortable and the breakfast was generous and delicious. The bar and restaurant is stylish and quirky with a broad selection of own brewed beers. We did not have supper in the restaurant as we had already booked somewhere else . When we stay again we will rectify this oversight, as I assume the quality of the breakfast is indicative of the of the rest of the food on offer.
Excellent stay here. Great beer, great food & friendly staff. Had a laugh in the bar with some other guests,it was a fun atmosphere. A lovely cooked breakfast followed the next morning. We will return.
I've never been disappointed when visiting The Old Cannon Brewery in Bury St. Edmunds... this time was no different. Excellent service, gorgeous food, super tasting beer and a nice atmosphere. I can't recommend highly enough this pub/restaurant for a drink, or better still, a meal with a drink. Thanks team Cannon, until the next time.
We've eaten here twice recently. The staff are mostly friendly, but we felt forgotten as had to chase to reorder drinks constantly, ask about missed bits of our order and if we could have deserts. No one asked if we wanted coffee and had to go to the bar to get our bill. It seemed that by 8.30 the staff were not interested. Some of the food is nice, however our sausages were very overcooked as were the prawn starters. The portions for the sausage and mash were small. The descriptions of the food are not always helpful. The nachos have a rarebit base which really spoilt it. Duck pom poms and scotch egg starters were very nice though. The roast dinner seems popular, so we may try that, but it's doubtful we will return again to eat off the main menu or come here again with friends. On the upside the beer choice is good and we will continue to use as one of our drinking spots.
I stay in 2-3 hotels a week, every week and have done for the last 10 years. This hotel is in my top ten! I stayed one night and it was bloody brilliant! Room was amazing and felt truly very homely. The rooms facilities were excellent: lovely soaps and a nespresso coffee machine. Breakfast was delicious with some great options which is a refreshing change to a full English. Coffee options in the morning included cappuccino, latte, etc. The only negative was the street parking which I found really difficult as there was no space and I ended up parking in a different street a short walk away. I would absolutely stay again however and would arrive in-time to try their evening meal menu.
A last minute stay ended up really well whilst staying here. A small but lovely and comfortable room with a quality breakfast the next morning all for a great price. Parking can be tricky but street parking is available.
We had such a lovely stay there! The staff is super nice and welcoming, the rooms are well-furnished and clean comfy towels and cool toiletries included + a coffee/tea station. We really enjoyed the food and the beer too and will definitively come back!Rooms: 5/5
Normally a good place to eat but avoid at all costs for Christmas Day Lunch. Paid an eye watering price for a Christmas dinner that was fridge cold on some items and hot on the others. Catering Turkey Roll not as described and after leaving a large amount of the cold inedible food paid almost £400 for 4 adults and 2 kids. Kids meals already confirmed months in advance was cooked after our meal was served as it was “forgotten”. So unfortunate as I had to keep saying to our guests “I promise it’s not normally this bad”. Appreciate it was Christmas Day but to increase the cost so much and reduce the quality by the same seemed unfair to regular guests. I can only assume most of the meal was pre-made and Simone forgot to microwave some of the items. Without fail the Yorkshire puddings were stored at sometime in the fridge. They were ALL cold “like fridge cold”. Second review ever left but just felt this time it was just too much to let go. Feedback has been passed back already but too no reply.
Stayed one night for a dinner at our son's school and tried this for first time. No separate reception for accomodation and when i arrived early the server was busy snd had lityle time or flexibility for me. Rooms were nice and well equipped with lovely shower. But we found rooms noisy and therefore had a disturbed night. Tried the craft beer in the evening and it was excellent. We recommend the take outs!! The breakfast was excellent - one of the best. Thr continental choice - pastries, juice, cereal, fruit yoghurt was fredh and tasty and the cooked options were great - we both went for the full english of course and it was fab.
Review for the restaurant: solid pub classics with a few slightly more unusual alternatives thrown in. The food is generally solid. The ale is very good and caters to most tastes. Having said that, the menu probably needs an update as it's been the same for a long time, but if you're not making repeat visits this isn't an issue.
