Nice large pub with a separate restaurant area, very good for kids, there's a few like bits in there to keep them entertained plus an outside dining area. They have a rather large menu with plenty to choose from including some super sized portions if you can stomach it ! I would happily go back again, good value for money and a nice atmosphere. The staff where lovely aswell ! They do a different deal each day off the week which is a nice added bonus
Absolutely rubbish pub pretty much empty but waited nearly an hour for food. When it arrived the burger was burnt to a chrisp chips were cold. When I then complained the nxt burger was under cooked and the cold chips had just been put back in the fryer. Now they were then saturated with oil and as hard as bullets. All.we got offered was a free drink JOKE.....
Used to go every Friday night for food as it was my local pub, the last two or free times I have been I have either been turned away from a half empty restaurant, or waited over an hour for food that is barely warm. My partner asked for a well done steak which was still quite raw in the middle. Just left it and went home. Multiple people were either sending back food when it finally arrived, friends we went with just cancelled the order and went home. Wish I would have done the same and then would not have been charged for a poor meal. Obviously not enough back or front of house staff, a shame as it used to be good but I cant see it staying open much longer without investment in more staff.
The staff were friendly. That's the only positive though. Not enough staff to cope with customers meant a lengthy queue to order, an hour waiting for food. The food arrived Luke warm and was accompanied by an empty bottle of mustard. They never did find time to check on us or take the dishes away. Then I had to wait 15 minutes to pay for drinks having previously been told to come back later because they were too busy to take payment. Combine all this with sticky floors and unclean toilets and it is reminiscent of a 70s Bernie Inn. Hopefully they will get management support to improve.
There was a sign up saying saying they were short of staff, I want to go out to get a nice meal that is nicer than I can cook at home. I had roast beef which was lovely but the accompanying veg was just disappointing & lacking flavour. My sister had a all day breakfast which they forgot the egg on. When one came out it did look fantastic though. I've had some great meals here in the past so hopefully this was just down to a staffing issue
Worst meal from the greengage in a while, there were 3 families in there and still had to ask for the table to be cleared and cleaned. We ordered our food and then a few mins later a chef come out to say 2 of the 4 meals weren't available and he even said the person taking the order knew what's not available. When food came out it was burnt, missing items on the food and dips missing from the onion rings. A few carrot sticks for kids veggie snacks, both kids fish finger meals were burnt. After a 3hr drive home and wanting a meal it was a shocking meal with most of it not eaten
Went to the Greengage yesterday for a family meal, absolutely fantastic pub! Plenty of choice on the menu and the food was delicious. Restaurant area completely segregated to the bar area so no distractions from the bar area. Top drawer, will definitely return at a later date. Thank you x
Have been going to The Greengage for years and today was our worst experience to date. Told there was a 40 minute wait on food which we didn't mind because it's usually pretty good grub Turned into 1 hour 40. Couldn't understand the delays as there were only about 5 tables waiting 2 of which got a refund and left. Seemed very little coming out of the kitchen and what did most thot a refund for. Staff seemed iunnterested and didn't hide frustration. Didn't get a refund as had used clubcard vouchers. Overall a very disappointing visit.
29th January update. Well done Marie and crew, you were exceptionally busy on Sunday, 2 staff working the floor and the same number doing the bar. The two young people serving table's clearing away were on the go all the while and even had time to ask diners if everything was to their satisfaction. They were not running around like headless chickens. The service has improved a lot over the past few weeks and it seems as if you are getting the staff to work as a team. Waiting time was acceptable, food was good and staff were not harassed. WELL DONE Marie and staff you now deserve the 5 stars. This is an update on the on the previous weeks meal. Sunday the 22nd we once again had our lunch at the greengage and it was by far a lot better than the 15th. The pub was busier, but the service was a lot speedier. No complaints this week. So well done Greengage, keep up the good work and we shall see you again on the 29th. P.S. Sorry there is only one complaint this week, we did not like sitting on those high seats as I am only 5ft 4in tall I need a step ladder to get on the seat. We usually sitnat table 17. Thanks We go every week for our Sunday lunch. Other Sundays when we have gone the service was not great. Some weeks no roast dinners, the reason staff shortages, so we have gone down to the Tollgate where they don't seem to have this problem. But on the 15th January as usual we booked like we always do and got there at 1.05pm as we had booked for 1.15pm, so had ordered before 1.15pm just after a young man who had his two young children with him looking forward to their burgers. So we sat there drank our drinks and I went up to the bar to ask for some more and one of the bar staff asked if every thing was OK, my reply was it would be if we were still not waiting for our lunch. We had been waiting over an hour. The young man with the children then came up to the bar and said he had been waiting over the hour which we had. The bar manager who served us was called and asked why we had not been told about the hour wait and it turns out our orders had not been sent through to the kitchen. The young man cancelled his order and asked for his money back and said that he should have his money for his drinks back for the inconvenience. Also when I went back to my seat two ladies who had been sitting at a table next to us said they had been waiting a lot longer and had ordered by using the app, they went up to the bar and cancelled the meal and got their money back. When our dinner eventually arrived the roast potaoes seemed as though they had been reheated 2 or 3 times, not very nice, beef a bit tough, but will say apple crumble and custard was nice. Come on Greengage get your act together and it's no use the brewery bringing temporary managers from Clacton they need someone who will take the job on full-time and bring the standards back up.
When we came into the restaurant it was empty we had to wait a while to place our order after at least 30 minutes wait for our food when it arrived it was barely lukewarm. Think this was because there was hardly any staff but when you order hot food we expect it to be hot and not have cold soggy chips. A very big improvement needed urgently.
