Fabulous addition to South Woodford. A stylish restaurant with simple, fresh and superb quality menu. Absolute must.
Quite simply one of the best meals I've ever had. Excellent service from start to finish and a wonderful range of food served. The pigeon was outstanding! The cocktail bar upstairs is also excellent. I was particularly delighted with how helpful the staff were in arranging things for my girlfriend's birthday. Will definitely go again and could recommend highly enough.
The modern yet elegant decor is a wow factor as you walk in - stunning in every detail. The service is attentive yet not intrusive and you really feel as if you are in a special venue. The menus offer a wide selection and after dining 4 times now, each dish was prepared and presented to perfection. The parfait starter, monkfish main and textures of chocolate were the stand out dishes for me. I can't recommend this venue enough. Excellent! Thanks to William the restaurant manager the staff for their consistently great service and welcome.
My wife and I had lunch at The Woodford on Friday 23rd September. We sampled each others dishes and both enjoyed every element of each dish. The squid was beautifully tender and the courgette which I do not normally like was a revelation. The wine list is not too long but seems well chosen. The service was relaxed and friendly but still efficient. Not cheap, but you get what you pay for. The chef is Michelin trained and it shows. It would not surprise me to see him get his own star soon.
Went there last night to celebrate both my sisters recent birthday. I have been meaning to go there since it first opened and it did not disappoint. The cocktails are beautifully made with care, I actually commented on the way the bartender made them with care and detail. We had the 7 course taster and it was it superb. You are delighted with each course as they are served and the waitress was brilliant. I had the beetroot starter, Lobster, monkfish, duck and the milk and honey dessert. Nothing disappointed. I did tell the waitress I would forget her name but if you are read If this, , you were the perfect hostess. Delightful, warm and approachable. We stayed on for drinks at the bar after dinner. Yomust eat there, I fear the locals are bemused with fine dining in Essex and the wonders of the amazing experience will be lost to perhaps what the masses prefer Either way, go there before it gets a star or go there before we lose this diamond in the rough. I will certainly be returning for more!!!!
Very mediocre food. Specifically, the lamb cutlets were cold, the streak tasteless and black cod very average. The cauliflower cheese was basically cauliflower with a very sparse sprinkling of Parmesan. Desserts a joke, we ordered 4 chocolate fondants, all of them came out cold and were hard inside. When queried with the waiter we were told 'this is the way we serve them here'....... To top the experience off the service was appalling, we spent a fair amount of time waving our hands around trying to get the attention of a waiter. Based on previous reviews we were really looking forward to eating here and very disappointed with the meal and overall experience.
Beautiful restaurant, excellent service only let down by the food frankly. While the food itself was not overly nouvelle the portion sizes were. The meat eaters among us enjoyed the steak and lamb but not so much as to warrant the menu prices and two bites later it was gone. The risotto was, quite frankly, bland and barely touched by our group. We subsequently learned the original chef had moved on as the menu had changed, something they had neglected to mention when we initially booked. The server kindly returned with a plate of 'goodies' to mitigate for the bland risotto. Sadly one had a dead fly set into the sticky glaze. Not very appetising. The service was excellent and the reason I've given it 3 instead of 2 stars. The servers were mortified on seeing the dead fly and the restaurant gave us the drinks on the house and didn't charge for the returned risotto but would I go again, definitely not.
Great food, terrible service. Took half an hour to get our bottle of wine, had to ask for it after they'd brought the starters out. Lots of staff but all badly managed. Food was very nice but was really let down by the service.
Everything tasted amazing but some of the combinations didn't work for me such as monkfish with a kind of banana purée, both were awesome, thankfully the purée was on the side. If I go again I will ask someone to pull up a chair and talk me through the menu much more thoroughly. They do know their stuff if asked.
Food very disappointing , crab shell in both starters, burnt offerings for Sunday Roast very disappointing considering the price expected excellent food. Surrounding lovely and friendly professional service but for the price disappointing the food was not up to standard and should of been of high quality....
