We enjoyed our Sunday roast here, mainly because of the nature of the project we became aware of through Tap Social beers. I love the project and am really keen to support. The pub food was very tasty, but the portions fairly small, not really matching the prices. The staff are friendly, but the service is very slow and a few prods were needed along the way for menus, to take orders or the accompanying bread sauce to be provided.
It's a fantastic pub with a worthy cause. All staff were super helpful. The food, I had aubergine stuffed with fresh veggies and couscous, was fresh and really tasty. I tried all of their Tap Social beers and although not my preferred style were all in good condition and flavoursome. Family friendly. It's totally recommended.Food: 5/5
Maybe it was just a fluke with a new chef, but I was very disappointed by the food when I visited. We ordered the whole roast chicken for our Sunday roast, but the first time it came out, the inner breast was still pink. The server was happy to take it back into the kitchen and after some time, we were served the same chicken but slightly more brown. Upon carving it again, I wasn’t fully certain if there wasn’t some pink left on the breast, but I left it as I didn’t want to start a fuss. The taste of chicken in the end was bland, and the gravy didn’t add much to help it. The vegetables appeared to have been put back in the oven as they were now considerably browner the picture is from before we sent it back, and any flavour that could have been there was gone. I suppose they did this to avoid contamination with the raw chicken, but frankly they could have just given us a new batch of vegetables as they are much cheaper than anything else on that plate. The sausage stuffing had a really nice fennel flavour, but that was about it. The staff were very accommodating and took the price of the beer off our bill, and the beer was good. I would consider returning for drinks, but I would be wary of the food.
Delightfully cozy pub with delicious daily menu offerings and friendly staff. Great outdoor seating with a laid back atmosphere. A true neighbourhood gem tucked away in a quaint corner of town!
Great for coeliacs! Came for Sunday roast and thoroughly enjoyed. I had the roast pork belly with apple, and the sticky toffee pudding. A lot of their menu is either gf or can be adapted to be gf. others in my party had the beef and turkey, and they all really enjoyed. Would say they go for quality over quantity with the roast, which I liked. Still very decent portions for the price. Great friendly staff, and I got the impression they are very used to catering for gf needs.
As food lovers, we have tried and explored all the restaurants in Oxford so trust me when I say that this humble, newborn pub has the best chef in Oxford. The food is not only great but also creative with a wide selection of incredibly yummy vegetarian options served by friendly and smiley staff in a homey atmosphere. If you are in Oxford it is a must try. The cheese soufflé or the onion couscous are our top picks.
First visit and I'm a fan! The food was excellent, some delicious vegan choices, which made me happy. The staff were all super friendly and the atmosphere was perfect for a Saturday night - busy, fun but also relaxed. Great pub.Food: 5/5
I love this pub, come frequently for lunch. It’s the perfect lunch menu, really delicious and reasonably priced. The beers are excellent as is the service. There is a ramp permanently outfront for wheelchair access – as a wheelchair user I can’t tell you how important this is, and I wish other businesses offered such simple adjustments as well. Keep up the good work.
The pub went through serious renovation as soon as it was managed by TAP. The interior part is pretty much the same like it used to be but the garden around is the big asset of the place now. You get this refreshing feeling. The menu has it's own style, it's not the typical British pub food therefore it is highly recommended to check the menu through their website or photos provided in this review before you visit the place. I am afraid there are limited dish choices and even more limited food selections for kids. The food overall is pricey but this is in accordance with the trend now days in Oxfordshire with all these gastro/special pubs. Just a note regarding the food, this "bite" of sausage role that costs 4,5 pounds is really a joke. The staff are very helpful, very polite and their manager should be really proud of them. I will definitely visit the place again and I hope their menu will be enriched in the near future.
Just stopped in on the off-chance. Had a couple of nice beers and a tasty savoury muffin. Super friendly staff and I would be dropping in much more if I lived in Oxford.
